My mom and I early voted at the library this afternoon. We went around 1:00 and spent maybe 20 minutes in line. It wasn't very long -- shorter than 2004, if I remember correctly -- but it moved very quickly. Apparently, we got there at the right time, because the line had just about doubled in length while we were inside. It was my first time using a paper ballot, which seems pretty surreal. To hear older voters talk about how strange electronic machines are, and, well, the paper ballot was new to me. I have to say, though, that this was the first time I was really excited to vote. Granted, I've only been doing it since 2002, but still. Mom said she actually had tears in her eyes while she voted. She didn't think she'd ever live long enough to vote for a black candidate. And this is coming from a white woman who grew up in Kentucky in the '50s and '60s.
Anyway, it took me forever to complete the ballot, because the state constitutional amendments and the county charters are a pain to read and comprehend. My mom finished much more quickly and had left the polling room when she found my friend Kim in line. So, we waited for her to finish, which didn't take long at all, and then went to Target together. Good times. We found some cute shirts of the three really big Florida universities: UF, UM, and FSU. So, Kim got the UM one, and I got the UF one. And I finally picked up Iron Man on DVD. Aaaaallll riiiiiiight.
Hope everyone's doing well!
