In my speech class, my teacher made us stand up in front of the class and state our views on politics and who we were going to vote for. The majority of the students in my class went up and said that they couldn't care less about who won the election because it didn't affect them directly. Realizing that people my age feel this way is very ( Read more... )

I'm hoping for this as well! It amazes me how there are still Conversatives out there, and some of them are our age as well. My roommate, for instance, thinks the idea that global warming is being caused by humans is hilarious. She thinks it's completely natural and that we're doing nothing to enhance it's affects. While it is completely natural, we are speeding up its process by being a wasteful society. She considers anyone that realizes that we need to start looking to alternative, cleaner fuel sources, and to stop being so wasteful, a "liberal" and doesn't concern herself with those ideas. She also is completely against Barack Obama entirely because of the fact that his father is a Muslim and because he didn't salute the American flag (which means that he's a terroist!!!!). She also thinks that Sarah Palin makes a great vice-presidential candidate, and will be better in Washington than Obama, because "at least she stands for something." Honestly, the fact that ANYONE our age thinks like this baffles me to no end. I literally cannot stand living with her because our views on EVERYTHING are completely different.

I'm fine with anyone voting for whomever they want, but your roommate doesn't appear to state any intellectual reasons. The classic uninformed voter is my biggest pet peeve. I don't care who you vote for, but really she needs to do some research.

She's voting purely based on who her parents are voting for. She literally told me not to talk about politics at all if her parents ever came to visit, because they would "make me cry." Apparently I'm not allowed to have an opinion at all because any opinion her parents have make mine invalid.
