In my speech class, my teacher made us stand up in front of the class and state our views on politics and who we were going to vote for. The majority of the students in my class went up and said that they couldn't care less about who won the election because it didn't affect them directly. Realizing that people my age feel this way is very disheartening. I don't understand how anyone could be ignorant enough to think that whoever becomes president will not affect them, because it WILL, and it will affect our generation THE MOST. I don't care what anyone's political views are, all I care about is for them to HAVE political views. I think that following this election should be a top priority for everyone, especially considering the state our country is in currently. Everyone just wants things to be fixed and for all of the problems to just go away, but they aren't going to go away if we leave every big decision for other people to take care of. I'm not going to get into a big spiel about who I think should be president and try to sway everyone to think the same thing as I do, but I am going to advise you all to get informed and vote for the person that you think is going to better our country in the long run. Find out each candidates views on the issues that you find the most important. Ask questions if you don't understand what some of the things that they are discussing mean. DO NOT vote for someone just because a person you know is voting for someone, because you could be voting for someone who doesn't support any of the things that you support. Please don't make the biggest issue of this election who is a Republican or Democrat, but look at it as neither and concern yourself with the issues at hand and who is going to implement the best method to try and fix them. I feel like a lot of people get caught up in their political party and fail to realize that just because a candidate shares the same political party as you do, doesn't mean that that candidate is going to make a good president. Also try and leave the religion factor out of the election, because just because a candidate is/isn't a Christian (or whichever religion you follow) doesn't mean that the candidate will/will not make a good president. In my opinion, religion should play no part in politics, though I know a lot of people (like my Republican roommate Michelle) are going to disagree. I cannot stress enough how important this election is, and I hope all of you, if you haven't cared about the election thusfar, have decided to rethink your decision and start getting informed.

P.S. Obama '08!
