Ianto has just turned to his office when he sees Kate emerge from it - one of the few not standing to watch first contact, but then ... for her, this isn't so important, so momentous, is it? He knows she must be shaken. Even in the year that suddenly never was, it's been months since he saw her ... she'd left them after they went to the surface, after what had happened to her baby. Ianto finds himself glancing down, seeing the pregnant swell of her stomach. Reset, of course - all of them were.

He hastily moves to intercept her, to steer her gently back into his office. "It's not a trick - it's a paradox. And it's been reset."

"How can you say that?" Her tone is full of anguish as Ianto intercepts her. "Ix died. They died." She gestures wildly at the group of people that were standing nearby. It is apparent that Kate is not getting better.

"He found us. He wants to make us suffer. It's a trick."

Gently, but firmly, Ianto pushes Kate into the office before she makes anyone else go into hysterics, and closes the door behind them. "It isn't a trick. We've communicated with the Valiant. The Doctor - we heard the Doctor explain what happened." He frowns, leans back against the door to prevent Kate from trying to go out of it again. "Everything has gone back - it's November, 2008, again."

Her trembling body only offers a slight resistance to being pushed back. It is not much but Kate presses against him as if she'd rather not be confined. She feels like she is losing control. Her fight or flight response has been triggered and she wants to flee.

"How do you know it's not? How do you know it's not just the Master pulling the strings?" Kate's breathing is very rapid and there is a certain tightness in her chest. "Ix is alive. He can't make me go through losing her again. He can't."
