but fuck is it hot. I slept, with a dog under each arm, through the hottest hours of the day and woke up just before dinner time, dripping with sweat feeling just a little bit...well, Holy.
I went to toban with Tokie today at her Buddhist church. Toban is like volunteer day, but Tokie, being 87, isn't asked to clean the bathrooms, or the kitchen, and being her guest, I'm not asked either. Mostly I was there as a poodle wrangler, holding Yumi while Tokie prayed, or I sat in the doorways and eavesdropped on prayers and chants I only understood in a very, very vague way. I helped serve lunch, and ate it enthusiastically while trying to pick out a few japanese words from the conversation, laughing when everyone else did: laughing not because I understood what was said, but how it was said.
And the days go like this, little bits of amazing everyday.
And I've got so much to do so soon but tonight I'm high on naps and on puupy love and on the ideas of people. and of the whats to come giddy giddy.
Next week I'll be working at a camp for austistic kids, having 8 of my own to watch over. I'm exicited, and nervous, and in like with someone else at the camp, so really, it's nothing to worry about. but I do. and then, and then:
I make my (humble) return to the bay area. and beyond. It's been so long since I was there, and much longer since I've been anywhere new. I swoon for Portland. I swoon.
I've been singing all day everyday for weeks. Tokie doesn't seem to mind.
