Okay umm, Patrick Chan's long program was one of the best things I have ever seen. People always talk about the energy in the building being electrified and I felt it. He skated clean and with huge jumps. We were on our feet a good 30 seconds before the end. You couldn't even hear the music. Afterward, everyone was just sitting there, almost panting. It was that good.
Shawn Sawyer, also amazing. He's got a very different style from PChan but wow, does he know how to perform. He was going to quit but he didn't and now he's going to Worlds. The third place finisher, Joey Russell was very charming.
Crone/Poirier won the dance (of course) but just barely. From where I was sitting and the feeling that I got, the crowd liked Kaitlyn and Andrew better. We stood up for Paul and Vanessa but only because, yay they're the winners. I'm definitely a fan of Kaitlyn and Andrew now. Baby Scott and Tessa were good as well but they didn't seem to have the same spark that they did in the short dance. I can't even count the number of times that I overheard someone mentioning Scott and Tessa. In line for the washroom, "Oh well, Scott and Tessa already have a spot at Worlds."
Speaking of the bathroom lines, motherfucker. Women certainly are pros at lining up for the toilet. Many interesting conversations are had in bathroom lines. On the topic of things that annoyed me: FUCK YOU, GUY SITTING NEXT TO ME AND YOUR FUCKING BINOCULARS TOO! I just LOVE having your elbow in my side all fucking day. Mr Twitchy Pants couldn't stay still. Raaaaage.
The gala was fun. While Kurt Browning didn't skate, it was fun to see him on the ice. Meagan and Eric had a moment where it could have gone horribly awry. Yikes. Kirsten and Dylan are such dorks. I like the "K" and "D" they had in sparkles on their shirts.
Overall, good experience. I'm not sure that I want to go to a skating competition again but I'm glad that I did.
