So, figure skating live = lots of waiting. Wait for the warm-up to finish, wait for the scores, wait for zambonis, wait for food. I'm pretty good at waiting but those seats are hella uncomfortable! Still! Amazing, amazing, amazing!

I got to the arena just before the last practice group for dance. I sat down and had a moment when Asher Hill/Kharis Ralph, Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje and Vanessa Crone/Paul Poirier came onto the ice. Like, holy crap, they are real! Kaitlyn and Andrew are absolutely stunning.

Then, the pairs short started. I LAAAAAAVHED IT!! The best part for me was actually being able to hear the teams calling the change in the side-by-side spins and the collective "ooooh" or "awwwww" from the audience when something went not so right. The first group was pretty meh. The second was better. Megan Duhamel missed a jump but otherwise, she and Eric Radford were pretty awesome. One girl was seriously all legs. Skinny legs. It bothered me. I think it was Brittany Jones. Anyway.

The last group of pairs was what I wanted to see. Except for the first team, they were boring. Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers were next and so much fun! They had everyone cheering their hearts out for them. After them were my favourites - Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch and they nailed it! The final team wasn't bad but Kirsten and Dylan! I heart them so much. They're in the lead after the short.

Next, after a short break (and the opening ceremony) was the short dance. I'm still a tad bitter about Tessa and Scott not competing and everyone knows that the gold is theirs. (It is, shut up. They already have a place at Worlds.) The dancers were all very good but the first real stars were Alexandra Paul/Mitchell Islam. They are very much Tessa/Scott type dancers and they were stunning. Ralph/Hill were cute, enjoyed them. I adored Kaitlyn and Andrew. So classy and elegant. Grudgingly, Vanessa and Paul were good as well and they are almost tied with Kaitlyn and Andrew after the short dance.

The ladies short was the final event. I don't enjoy the ladies, never have. I might like a few skaters but overall, it bores me. I stayed to see Jessica Dube skate and then bailed after her group had finished. I was more interested in squinting across the rink and watching Kurt Browning dance in the broadcaster stand. :D
