Yay! I ran 10k today! I'm so, so pleased with both my time and the run. I know by most people standards it's pretty slow I feel great for having totally smashed my target time of 1 hour 30 min by finishing in 1hr17min04 by my watch.
I got up early to be able to eat breakfast and had porridge with fresh strawberries. I'd not slept very wel waking at about 4am and tossing and turning for a while after. I set out at 7.45am but everything went smoother than I'd accounted for so I had turned up quite early so had to wait a further hour until the whole thing kicked off.
There was some warm up on site but beforehand it was a choice of standing in the sun (and potentially getting too hot and/or burnt) or in the shade - where I shivered. The warm up was quite poor really and ended 30 minutes before we even got started. Yet again, like the moonwalk, I was so cold waiting around that my shoulders and neck hurt because I was tensing up.
The race went much, much better than I expected. I started with a 5' brisk walk to warm up and before I knew it I was at 1km! After this I jogged within my comfort zone. I felt like I was pushing it just enough. At 7km my knees were complaining a little bit but it was better than I've normally experienced in training. I did get some hip pain in both hips from about 9k, I managed a bit more effort for the last 50 yards but was at my max energy expenditure really.
All in all a really good run.
