aloha spring break!
The linguistics symposium went very well, and my paper on the phonetic organization of invented alphabets (ie, fun with Elvish) was well-attended. That and the paper abstract/proposal due the day before for Medieval Literary Theory meant I had about 2 hours of sleep in 3 days, and I kept almost nodding off in the panels.
And now we are actually going to Florida for the week, for the launch of My Uncle The Astronaut. If they delay it any more I will kick them. In their behinds. As it is, it was such short notice that I didn't technically get the time off for work. I told a manager, who may or may not tell any other managers (yay communication). Luckily I have a cold, so I can call in sick from Florida and sound authentically miserable.
Yes, I have a cold for spring break. I didn't have one all winter, but this one I think was caused by the stress and not sleeping, see above. I usually get sick right at/after finals. Flying on an airplane with broken sinuses promises to be lots of fun.
Also I will not have internet while there. I will probably borrow a few minutes here or there, but I will not bring my own laptop. In no small part because, after only about 5 months, my power cable has died again. All of them have died from bending too much at the part where the cord goes into the plug, but the last two I was able to tape up and wiggle around, and they worked for a few more months until they wore through completely and I could see the copper wire. This one looks perfectly normal, but when I plug it in, I only get the barest flicker on the battery icon. Probably because I bought it from China for $15. This is a sign from above that I really need a new computer.
But! Florida! Spring break! I have a bikini and I am allowed to drive the rental car! What more could a girl want?
