My life, or what to do about it

We got home this morning after a week in Bend, Oregon spent mountain biking. It was good fun and those people out there ride at a level that I can only aspire to. Literally and figuratively as the altitude gains made me hack up several lungs every day. One day's ride was 17 miles in length, and the first 13 were spent climbing. I thought I was going to die a couple of times and actually got off and pushed on occasion. And yet, I had the time of my life. I could've answered the Sfic topic "To Boldly Go" with tales of our descents: many rocks, off camber, sheer drops. I was terrified sometimes, but I rode a lot more of it than I would've believed. We did three rides with the guys at Cogwild and our mileage was 32 miles the first day, 17 the second (more climbing that day) and 21 the final day. We are saddle sore and tired and ready to go back for more.

I'm also ready to move to Bend. We fit in there: there are dogs, bikes, and kids everywhere, as well as good coffee and microbreweries. The lifestyle is ours, or what I would like mine to be. J has said that if he could find a job out there, he'd consider it. I must start a job search for him. I'm not as talented as Nlynn. I can't figure out how to post any pictures to the web. Just imagine gorgeous mountains, blue skies, and five or six people on mountain bikes. Lovely, no?

The town is full of transplants. We only met one person who was born in Bend. The others were from Pennsylvania, Florida, Hawaii, Washington, and Georgia.

Also, anyone ever heard of the band "Pink Martini"? Excellent. Excellent. Recommended to us by the native of Bend, and we heard it in the van shuttle on the way back from the last ride. Bought the CD in a music store in Portland and have been listening nonstop since getting home. Haven't been to their site, but it's www.pinkmartini.com Go. Buy.
