First things first: if you aren't already
registered to vote or if you need to
re-register, you have until next Monday.
Even though it's not a big candidate election year there are some
really significant measures on the ballot. I am not going to go into
all of the reasons that you should vote, just one: voter turnout is
most likely going to be really low, and the organizations that have
been most successful recently in getting voters to the polls are really
conservative churches. Do you really want those people legislating your
life?
Of particular interest to me:
Proposition 73: Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of a Minor's Pregnancy.
Vote NO!!
The others:
Proposition 74: Public School Teachers. Waiting Period for Permanent Status. Dismissal.
Proposition 75: Public Employee Union Dues. Restrictions on Political Contributions. Employee Consent Requirement.
Proposition 76: State Spending and School Finding Limits.
Proposition 77: Redistricting.
Proposition 78: Discounts on Prescription Drugs.
Proposition 79: Prescription Drug Discounts.
Proposition 80: Regulation of Electric Service Providers.
