1. Comment to this entry saying 'ICONS!' and I will pick SIX of your icons.
2. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I chose.

Entry discusses spoilers for relatively recent canon.

"No more power drills."

Derryderrydown made this icon ages ago. It is Stephanie Brown, aka Spoiler, aka Robin IV, aka Batgirl IV, during her time as Robin; I *think* the panel is from TEEN TITANS v.3 #13. Don't quote me.

This icon is my Icon of Feminist Rage because for a while, we thought Steph was dead. She was tortured to death with a power drill. The pretty, poor, blonde teenage girl with a sex life -- yeah, the one who always dies in the movies -- had been Spoiler, had made herself dangerous, and then she was *Robin*.

And then she was dead.

And I am really, really tired of women dying to further a man's Angst.

No more power drills.

"Episcopalian."

I don't remember who made this one, which is a pity, because it's a lovely shot of BABYLON 5's s1 Delenn. All her serene, determined peace.

Delenn is a member of the Minbari religious caste, and while "Faith manages" is not her most famous quote, it does an excellent job of summing up her views on life: there are difficulties, and these difficulties are not to be ignored or dismissed, but neither are they to be given undue weight. Faith does not make tribulations disappear, nor does it minimize them. Faith merely persists. Faith manages.

I use this icon when I am discussing faith in general, or my personal faith as a member of the Episcopal Church, the U.S. branch of the worldwide Anglican church.

"Rei will fuck you up."

Arionhunter made this icon. Suzamura Rei, aka Suzamura Ginga, aka Zero, is the Silver Fang Knight of GARO, a tokusatsu horror show. My nickname for him is "Japanese Red Hood!Jason;" he is snarky and sardonic and broken and he hunts his own death. Along with his personal vendetta. He is beautiful, and he is my very, very favorite, in between the moments where I want to slap him very hard.

I use this icon when discussing GARO, or when I wish to evince a certain degree of menace. Which seems fitting, since the scene this shot derives from is one of his more dangerous moments in a whole series of Rei Is Lethal.

"It was not the fault of the dream."

Ilyena_sylph made this icon from DC's two-issue UNCLE SAM miniseries, the themes of which include the failures of American politics and policy to live up to America's purported dream in both past and the relative (when UNCLE SAM came out, at least) present. Uncle Sam is observing the fake/'fake' version of himself at a political rally and goes to fight him. Keywords are a line of text spoken by Columbia; "If America fouled up along the way, and sometimes it did, that was the fault of the dreamers. It wasn't the fault of the dream." The image, in context, is therefore a quick shorthand for 'don't pretend your fuckups didn't happen, don't dismiss your own privilege, and keep trying anyway.'

I use this icon when discussing American politics, especially if the discussion in question involves the very serious fuckups in American history and where American policy has fucked up worldwide.

"First Couple of FIERCE."

This icon was made by nenya_kanadka, and I have it because it is basically made of adorability. Barack/Michelle is my real-people political ship -- take Barack/Rahm hence, take it far from me! Unless he is in an open marriage, because dudes, he would never ever cheat, and also have you *seen* that woman? I just. Cooface! SO IN LOVE. Her *smile*, and his face tucked into her shoulder, and *smooshhands*

I haven't actually used this icon anywhere! Probably I would use it for discussing love that was actually, like, sane and healthy and good for the people involved in non-fucked-up ways. If I ever engaged in such a discussion.

"Does this make me Robin?"

This icon was made by parkerx, featuring Miss Parker and Sydney from THE PRETENDER, in their strange and damaged and healthier-than-most-other-available-options teamwork fashion.

They are a dynamic duo! They really are. And Sydney simultaneously is Parker's Mommy, Daddy, Partner, and Get Thee Hence I Feel Nothing But Contempt person. But Parker generally fakes feeling nothing but contempt for, like, everybody. Sydney doesn't take it personally.

I kind of ship them, in that way where they really need to never ever ever have sex and Sydney won't even particularly let himself want to and neither, most of the time, does Parker, but mostly I want them to be able to hug each other.

Mostly the keywords are because I think I'm funny. :D

babylon 5, the pretender, garo, steph, meme, hush up and deal with my spam, i point the finger at you, dc comics, uncle sam
