I recently put in an offer on my dream house. It was a historical home in downtown Birmingham, needed some work, but the perfect most charming property - a yard for the dogs, walkable to shops and restaurants, long driveway and garage, hard wood floors, brick colonial, a room that I envisioned painting green and making into my office, a deck outside for entertaining, and extra bedrooms. Well I offered $20,000 over the asking price, and I still lost the house. It was a ridiculously well-priced foreclosure, and the other buyer was paying cash; my realtor tells me the dollar amount wouldn't have even mattered.
The positive outcome of this is that it's forcing me to save money so that I have as much cash as possible for when another dream house comes along (or when mine comes back on the market... a girl can hope, right?)
I've been doing great so far. I've only spent $30 since last Thursday, and $20 of that was for open skate with Dave (which is his treat next time). The other $10 was for three grilled cheeses at Five Guys (my new obsession/weakness).
