Come play with me!!!

I almost forgot to pimp my own pet project. Now that wouldn’t do at all, would it?

Okay, here’s the deal. Taylor and I have been working on a pan-fandom online Role-play based on the Sanctuary ‘verse. But, you need no knowledge of Sanctuary to play (we explain all you need to know) And as long as you can read and write, we don't honestly care if ( Read more... )

join me in the sandbox!, kat is a geek, role-play, kat is a dork, sanctuary, kat is a nerd

You don't have to join right away, no, and we're not even getting off the ground until the end of the month. We just want to give everyone a chance to reserve the characters they want if they have specific characters in mind (i HAD to be Will and Dana Whitcomb because we need the leadership of the two organized factions in the hands of the Mods -- Taylor will be taking Magnus for that reason -- but a lot of people just have characters they really adore and would like to try.)

Role-playing is a lot of fun and pan-fandom is a BLAST because you get to really take control of your own mythology as it's being touched on by MULTIPLE 'verses (like Wilson or Jim being abnormals but still having that same full and complete backstory in thier own world).

This one also allows AU, so you could theoretically have, say Mirror!Spock or Geeky!Carter. About the only restriction we have on characters is that they can't be Original; they need to be from some canon (otherwise the drama queens come out of the woodwork *barely manages to avoid naming names* and ruins the whole game for everyone else -- NOT going to happen here. I have no problem being the Bad Mod to Taylor's Good Mod if it makes the game fun for people).

But it's so much fun mixing canons like that. Dana Whitcomb is already making plans for how to try to sway some of the people I'd like to see in this game (she's pretty sure she can have House signing on the dotted line in the first five minutes, but she knows it'll take longer to sway Scully, assuming it's even possible). And it's always fun to play around with how certain characters would react to certain OTHER characters and/or situations:

Sam Tyler jumps off that roof and wakes up in Old City in 2009 instead of in Manchester in the 1970s and once more has to figure out how the EFF to get back where he belongs and what he's meant to learn this time.

Lanna_Kitty suggested Abby from NCIS (the happy!hyper Goth forensics expert) because she would just die of glee when the secrets of the Sanctuary were revealed to her

She also suggested that Ashley Magnus would get along very well with Wendy Watson and come home just THRILLED because she had just learned the coolest Martial Arts move EVAH!!! "Mom! It's SO cool! It's called the 'River of Pain' and MAN is that name an understatement! It's GREAT!!!"

Or, some of my envisioned scenarios:

Blair: "You know, Jim, this actually explains a LOT about you..."
Jim: *pops Blair on the back of the head* "Yuck it up, Sandburg. Last I checked, 'Witch Doctor' wasn't a normal job-description, either."

Druitt: "Jack, old boy! So good to see you again..."
Ianto: "One of your ex-boyriends is Jack the Ripper? Why do I put up with you again?"
Druitt: "I should imagine it's his remarkable sexual prowess, lad."
Jack: "You always did know how to make a man blush, John!"
Ianto: *shakes his head and wanders off*

House: "The patient's not HUMAN? Now that's just cheating!!!"

Connor (from Primeval) or Hodgins (from Bones): "TOLD you I wasn't just some paranoid Conpiracy nut. There IS a conspiracy. In fact, there appear to be several. Oh, man, the guys on my list-serve are going to EAT THIS UP..."

Or even Monk: "You mean I was NEVER actually mentally-ill? Great, now I need therapy even more than I did before..."

or how about the Dresden Files?
Murphy: "I can't believe you actually had me buying that 'magic' crap, Harry! Why didn't you just TELL me there was actually science behind it?"
Harry: "Uh, because I didn't know there WAS. Wait, if you can figure out how to supress my natural EM field, does that mean I could actually take a HOT shower for a change? Maybe play some computer-solatire?"

Just lots and lots of fun ... would you like me to see if i can dig up some samples of characters from different fandoms interacting? I know I've at least got some Will fanboying over 2009!Kirk from another role-play i used to dabble in. And somewhere if i dig back far enough, i might be able to find some others. Most of my interactions there were either with other Sanctuary characters (including some Nubbin-inspired rowdiness) and originals.

Sounds like a huge amount of fun, all right! And yes, please, some samples would be nice, I'm a total newbie at all this, so that'd be really helpful, lol. Is it bad that I'm already thinking 'Gee, it'd be plausible for Marguerite to end up there through the shifting planes of reality or some such unexplained Lost World phenomena'? :P Or that it'd be the perfect place for half-human, half-replicator Elizabeth to end up? *clutches head*

You're allowed up to three characters (no more than 2 per fandom, however) if that helps and, as in most pan-fandom games, this one pretty much presupposes the existence of space-time rifts. Maybe Marguerite was visiting Cardiff? In a 'verse where anything goes, this is a perfectly acceptable plot-device since we have to accept that Torchwood is theoretically real, too.

I'd be really interested to see where Marguerite's journey would take her. I can very easily see with the Sanctuary OR the Cabal. Or, for that matter, completely freelance. Has real potential. If you go to the main page, you can read up on the 'verse. I didn't write the "rules" or "premise" posts (brevity's never been my gift) but the factional POVs, glossary, and "monster manual" are all mine and may give you a better idea of what we're doing and where we're going. Marguerite, especially, has real potential as an independent contractor in the middle of a Shadow War.

sorry, was too tired to dig last night kat_rowe June 11 2009, 17:47:02 UTC
These are mostly picked up mid-thread because because entire pages can get insane to load if they've got too much activity. Not a problem in-game because you're staying in one thread and it collapses every now and then so you just pick up the thread at the last comment or the last collapse. Also, my Will's got a slightly Oedipal thing going for Magnus, which comes across in some of the threads.

Will and Magnus on the anniversary of his mother's death:
http://community.livejournal.com/ingakankei_city/43451.html?thread=7593403#t7593403

Will encounters a cat on the roof of the Sanctuary and doesn't realize until it's already in his lap that it's not just a housecat ("Hello, my name is Blair" kind of gave it away for him):
http://community.livejournal.com/ingakankei_city/43451.html?thread=7620539#t7620539

Will can't even visit friends any more without things getting weird:
http://community.livejournal.com/ingakankei_city/43196.html

This one touches on politics from about 4 fandoms (the RP takes place in what's essentially a space-time junction), touches on why we try to avoid original characters (Kanna), has Will butting heads professional and personally with Magnus, and let's Will show off his psychology skill AND how badly he's been ethically compromised since joining the Sanctuary:
http://community.livejournal.com/ingakankei_city/41424.html?thread=6806224#t6806224

Will and Kirk
Will's first thought: "It's like watching Druitt do it (teleport) without 130 years of practice."
Will's second thought: "Delusional system."
Will's third thought: "The Many Worlds Hypothesis is true? Shit, now I owe Henry $50."

I'd round it out with some Nubbin-induced insanity, but you haven't seen that ep yet, so you'd probably just be sitting there scratching your head. But this should give you a general idea. These samples are from an RP that stopped being hugely plot-driven after awhile, so only one of the threads is hugely plot-based (the Magnus/Will one in her office).

In One For All we want to go with more of an equal(ish - depending on what the players want) blend of plot, mission (action), and character exploration, but people are welcomed to only explore those aspects they find interesting. Some people are all about action and don't really do a great deal of character-development, some are all about the characters and their relationships, and some like to dabble in all different kinds of RP until they find a balance that appeals to them.

Oh, I also should have mentioned about that thread I said touches on the politics of 4 fandoms, that One For All won't be REMOTELY that convoluted. It takes place firmly in the Sanctuary 'verse. Characters come to us, we don't go to them, so the situations in their home realm don't really apply to us. (Except inasmuch as the time and place you grow up in ALWAYS effects the person you are now.)

given the RP any more thought? kat_rowe June 16 2009, 02:16:29 UTC
We'd love to have you and any friends who care to tag along. We now have characters from Sanctuary, the X-Files, the Mummy, Grey's Anatomy, the Middleman, Doctor Who, and Torchwood. No one from the Lost World, SG-1, or SGA yet. So I'm off to post yet another journal entry, lol :) Must pimp my baby
