KAT-TUN

ARE YOU ENJOYING THE PARTY?

The familiar ‘ONE DROP’, theme song of ‘Kami no Shizuku’, will be released on 11 February. This month, other than ‘What is the recommended situation for listening to ‘ONE DROP’?’, we had them answer questions associated with Valentine’s Day. What are the Valentine’s Day memories of the members?

(Insert name here)-style best hit this winter

Kamenashi Kazuya: Wine. Because I actually drank wine during the drama filming, I tasted various delicious wines. I can also name the brands I like ne. I also have a small wine cellar that holds 6 bottles and glasses for Bordeaux and Burgundy wines… Such a 22-year-old is uncool ne (laughs)?

Akanishi Jin: Movies. I went to catch a movie with my friend during winter break. I watched Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest work and it was interesting. It’s not like I watch a lot of movies but when I have the time, I do. By the way, I prefer a cinema that’s bigger than a mini theatre ne.

Taguchi Junnosuke: A humidifier. When I’m sleeping, it’s ok if I have a super warm Mother Goose down futon, but when I wake up, the other rooms are air-conditioned. Thus the air is extremely dry and I bought a humidifier of good performance. This way I’ll be in form ne. My skin and throat won’t get better dramatically but emotionally yes ne.

Tanaka Koki: Sakura, my dog! I can’t help loving her too much. I think she’s the girl I love the most in all my 23 years of life. As I can’t stand being alone, it’s bad if I can’t touch her all the time. During bedtime, she sleeps on my neck or chest, or between my legs ne. Although I think about when she’ll have kids… I can’t approve of a male less strong than I am! I love her so much, to the point that I don’t know what I should do!

Ueda Tatsuya: A hot pot [nabe] ne. It’s easy to make and is delicious. At the peak, I eat it everyday. Now I’m into Tantan Nabe. Put in miso that has minced meat added in it, boil the ingredients and eat it as it is. When I’m alone, I make simple dishes with ingredients I get from the supermarket.

[miso: fermented soybean paste]

Nakamaru Yuichi: Online shopping. It’s really convenient ne, you can shop even in the middle of the night. You can buy books, cosmetics, etc. I haven’t bought rice before but I’ve thought about it several times. Also, I bought clothes online as presents for my parents the other day ne. Although I don’t buy clothes for myself online as I want to try them on, it seems I don’t have time to go buy clothes before the drama ends… What should I do?

Valentine’s, examinations… Maxim of victory or defeat, (Insert name here)-style

Kamenashi Kazuya: ‘When it’s time to retreat, retreat.’ Being on the attack all the time isn’t victory and retreating is also a way to win. There are people who always move with guts but there are circumstances where going all out doesn’t help matters, and that’s why retreating is also important. Lately ne, I remember to retreat in such a way. There’s no concrete cause but I think there’s a meaning to it when I started to surf. Surfing, being obsessed with wine… I’m an uncle, am I not (laugh)? Ah, there’s not just Valentine’s Day and examinations in February, there’s also my birthday ne. Fight me (laughs)!

Akanishi Jin: ‘Presence of mind’. It’s not really a maxim but during a match, be relaxed all the time. You don’t need jinxes or charms but tell yourself, “I can definitely do this,” and do your best.

Taguchi Junnosuke: ‘Luck is also within your capability’. It’s natural to prepare or do the basic things but leave it up to luck after that. You don’t need a charm or jinx; just catching the pace and appreciate the routine. If you can’t catch the pace no matter what, give up. It’s also vital to give up ne!

Tanaka Koki: ‘If you even think a little of losing, you already won’t win’. Because I think I’ll definitely win ne. There are no jinxes but self-confidence. I think because you have confidence, you can’t lose, and the flow of victory will come to you. But it’s not good to run away from a match and attract the flow. Even if the situation turns disadvantageous for a moment, it’s ok. Attract the flow by competing. If you do so, you’ll win in the end.

Ueda Tatsuya: ‘Do it like you’re dying’… No, ‘Do it thoroughly’. If there’s something that you definitely want to succeed in, do it thoroughly. Prepare properly before the match, not just during it. There’s no such thing as a jinx, I don’t believe it. I believe in myself and the surrounding environment. I believe in luck to a certain extent but it’s not a matter of believing or not but of doing or not.

Nakamaru Yuichi: ‘I’ll definitely win’ or ‘I’ll definitely not lose’. Raise your fighting spirit with that. As I hate to lose, when feeling that I can’t lose or when I don’t want to lose, my adrenalin runs high ne. And this is not about matches but in the event that you don’t know the answer to a multiple-choice question, always choose the second option from the right. Out of all my jinxes that produced good results, this is the one that I’ve continued since Secondary 3 ne.

Valentine’s Day memories. What are the % for sweetness & bitterness?

Kamenashi Kazuya: 99 to 1. Though I have bitter memories, there are much more sweet memories so sweetness wins. But the 1% of bitterness is at the back of my mind and now and then it shows on my face. I used to receive lots of chocolate in kindergarten. Around 40. But the number includes those I received from the neighbouring aunties ne (laughs). And I did the ‘kure kure appeal’. If I don’t appeal to them, I won’t be able to receive any.

[kure means to give. so i guess he flashes them the puppy eyes, head tilted to the side complete with an innocent smile. lol~]

Akanishi Jin: Hmm… I’m not that aware of Valentine’s Day so it’s probably 0 for both. I didn’t bother about it much even when I was in school. In primary school, the girls were excited about it but the boys were absorbed in games like soccer or tag instead of Valentine’s Day. If I were to list a sweet memory, it’d be receiving chocolates from my grandmother every year ne. I looked forward to receiving grandmother’s chocolates every year.

Taguchi Junnosuke: 100% sweet. I didn’t receive any chocolates since I was a kid. The maximum was around 1. Even when I was a student, I wasn’t cool so I wasn’t popular and it wasn’t all the rage to give chocolates. Maybe it was because my school was strict as well. No matter what, chocolates are candy and it’s not good to bring candy to school ne. I also didn’t receive chocolates from my parents as well and I’m not really familiar with Valentine’s Day. But I don’t have bitter memories ne, since there are only sweet chocolates (laughs).

Tanaka Koki: 50% each. I receive chocolates from my mum every year so there’s no one year in which I get none, but the most I received in a year is 6. When I was a student, there were sweet memories ne. My shoe locker was crammed full of chocolates! I want to experience that once. Ah, I received a love letter in my shoe locker before. But there wasn’t a name written on it so I don’t know who it’s from and it ended with me thinking, “… A prank?” (laughs)

Ueda Tatsuya: Approximately 90 to 10. Basically, I don’t have good memories or bitter or sad ones. When I was little, I received plenty of chocolates though I can’t recall the number. I received them as a friend from my female friends in primary school. Well, after all that was primary school ne (laughs).

Nakamaru Yuichi: Around 80% and 20% ne. I don’t really have bitter memories ne. Every year, I receive chocolates, whether many or a few; There’s not one year in which I couldn’t get any, is there? I don’t recall the greatest number but in lower primary, I received many giri chocolates. But last year I received about 2 or 4… It could be due to the fact that I work with mainly guys. On the set of ‘RESCUE’, it’s really all guys so I wonder how it’ll turn out this year…

A ¥1000 chocolate and 100 ¥10 chocolates. Which do you want to receive?

Kamenashi Kazuya: 100 ¥10 chocolates. Because I can enjoy them. It’s perfectly fine if it’s handmade from someone I like, but if it’s giri choco, I’ll think, “This girl is interesting!” if I get 100 ¥10 chocolates ne.

Akanishi Jin: The ¥1000 chocolate. Usually I don’t eat chocolates and even if I received a lot I can’t eat them all so the valuable one is better. If it’s between 1 honmei choco and 100 giri choco, of course I’ll take the honmei choco ne (laughs). But I’m not able to receive any chocolates. It’s not a lie, it’s true! Up till now I received 7 at most and that was when I was in primary school… I want to be able to receive chocolates.

Taguchi Junnosuke: The ¥1000 chocolate. It doesn’t have to be ¥1000, ¥300 would be fine too. Since it’s something that I can’t eat a lot of, just one yummy chocolate is fine.

Tanaka Koki: Either! For the one on the receiving end, it’s the thought, not the price, that counts ne. If I receive homemade chocolates from someone who doesn’t usually cook, I’ll think, “She tried her best”, and will be happy. But it doesn’t mean that it has to be homemade ne.

Ueda Tatsuya: If it’s whether I receive a ¥1000 chocolate from one person or I receive a ¥10 chocolate from 100 people, I’ll choose 100 people ne. Because I’ll be happy if many girls came and gathered. This is the basic (laughs)! If either is from one person, then the ¥1000 one. But if I were to receive something for Valentine’s Day, an item instead of chocolates would be good… I’m already thinking about it! It’s the same for my birthday ne, anything is good if she’s thinking about me. Even if you ask me what I want, I don’t really have any desires ne.

Nakamaru Yuichi: The price of the gift is of no concern so I’ll be happy with either. If I have to choose one then I’d like the ¥1000 chocolate. That reminds me, perhaps I’m influenced by my dad who always told me, “Treat girls tenderly,” so I returned the favours on White Day ne. That year when I received lots of chocolate, I went to buy the presents and distributed them to all the various people. This in itself was fun ne.

What is the recommended situation for listening to ‘ONE DROP’?

Kamenashi Kazuya: After watching ‘Kami no Shizuku’! I think it’d be good to listen to it after watching the drama. More than meetings and separations, ‘ONE DROP’ reveals a person’s course and that’s what I do ne. It’s a song about meeting and the changing forms of people as large as life. On the days when the drama isn’t broadcasting… Listen while drinking to wine (laughs). The underage can drink something delicious when listening.

Akanishi Jin: That’s right… Instead of just listening to it, I want you to sing it at karaoke or something. Or in your car. ‘ONE DROP’ is not a very easy-to-sing song but once you hear the melody you can remember it and it’s the finish to a catchy atmosphere so I want you to remember it.

Taguchi Junnosuke: It’s often said to ‘listen to the song when you’re depressed’ but I think you don’t have the time to listen to songs when you’re depressed ne. That’s why I think if you listen to it when you’re starting to recover from your depression and starting to see the light, you can become forward-looking.

Tanaka Koki: This is difficult… Though I think ‘ONE DROP’ is a song about separations, I listen to such songs in any situations. I think each and everyone is different, and it’s better to listen to it in various circumstances and search for the best by yourself. Before a match, when you fall out of love, when you’re driving, when you’re waiting at home, before you sleep… I want you to try listening to it in diverse ways.

Ueda Tatsuya: It’s a song that fits any situation, isn’t it? When you want to liven up the atmosphere, when you want to feel calm. I think you can listen to it alone or with a friend who has the same interests.

Nakamaru Yuichi: Listening to it alone would be good. Of course it’s also alright to listen to it with friends but I want you to listen to it carefully. The lyrics of the B melody go, ‘It’s ok to give up/ You don’t have to put on a strong front/ It’s not your fault’ and it’s the part where it’s extremely encouraging and I like it ne. That’s why, it’s probably also good for when you’re feeling down ne.

Recent news

Kamenashi Kazuya: The drama filming is smooth. The first episode is true to the original work, but from episode 2 onwards, the wines selected are from the original author and from the drama production side, so wine drinkers will pay attention. I drink about 1 glass of wine during shooting and, as I thought, it’s easy to bring out my emotions when drinking the real deal. But drinking wine in the morning at 8 a.m. is a little intense (laughs).

Akanishi Jin: A friend who went to the States came back after half a year. The filming for the movie is over and I have some time so I spend almost everyday with him/her. We have meals together, watch movies together… nothing special at all ne. But after all spending time with friends is more fun than spending time alone ne.

Taguchi Junnosuke: Lately, I ate lots of hot pot. Most of the time, I think, “Let’s have hot pot!” and make up my mind but each time I could make a perfect hot pot. Lettuce Shabushabu is one tasty dish I ate recently. I copied this from a shop; add lettuce to the pot. Add a little pork and the lettuce that’s dipped in is delicious. It’s healthy too! Talking about that, you won’t gain weight during the New Year and it’s good for health to eat vegetables hot pot ne. Today, my friend who returned home to Sendai brought seafood so I thought of having seafood hot pot (Kame who’s next to him said, “That’s wonderful~” and got up from his seat). It’s today, you want to come? Ah… He’s gone…

[shabushabu: a hot pot dish of thinly sliced beef cooked at the table by dipping in boiling broth]

Tanaka Koki: Recently, I made a song from Sakura’s point of view. A song like this, ‘You get angry in no time ne. I’m worried that I’ll make you angry again. However just being here with me, just that makes me content.’ It seems like a girl’s point of view but it’s actually Sakura’s. When I lie down and make a song on my computer, Sakura comes in between me and the computer and we make the song together (laughs). And I ask her things like, “Sakura, how’s this?” ne.

Ueda Tatsuya: I’m at the point where I’ll know very well the script of ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The happiest scene? Without a doubt the love scene (laughs)! In the event that there may be nothing, I’ll ad-lib (laughs), I feel like you can’t stop me once I get carried away. Because ad-libbing certainly makes it more interesting ne. After acting in a serious play for a long time, it gets kind of weird to watch it. So it’s better to play around a bit. Although I want to go boxing in between the plays, I have to practice fencing. In boxing, the left foot is thrust forward but in fencing the right foot is thrust forward. So fencing is totally the opposite from boxing. I’m not used to it so it seems difficult, but I want to do it such that I won’t give off a strange feeling ne.

Nakamaru Yuichi: Because we shoot outside a lot for ‘RESCUE~’, it’s super cold! There are collapsible chairs in the trailer but the other day when I came back from shooting, the surface was frozen… It was just really cold. Up till now I didn’t think much about being at home, but lately I feel blessed just to be in my warm home ne.
