What is wrong with some people?

This health care debate has turned up the ugliness factor on the right.

Limbaugh compares Obama to Hitler; this is par for the course. Hasn't he been doing this for more-or-less the last year? But people at rallies are now displaying pictures of the president with a Hitler moustache drawn on. But, you know, Limbaugh isn't a leader, and he just can't help it if people take him literally.

Glenn Beck goes on his show and fantasizes about having a glass of wine with the Speaker of the House, pointedly not drinking his (and what's a good Mormon like him doing with alcohol, anyhow?), and only after the "Speaker" takes a sip does he mention having poisoned it. Oh, that's so droll! Glenn, you're a funny, funny man! Wonder when one of his viewers will try and take the idea of killing the Speaker seriously?

A handful of people show up at a public meeting and hide behind the First Amendment while shouting so loudly that the people who have gone to the meeting to actually get information cannot get it due to the disruption. And the thing is, if someone gets up and starts to shout in the gallery of the US Congress, they're escorted out; so how would escorting these folks out of these meetings be any more of an infringement of their Freedom of Expression? And didn't the Bush Administration tell those of us who opposed the war to be happy with a small pen of a "Free Speech Zone" so that we couldn't disrupt the Republican Convention in 2004? Or events like the G-8, or installations like the School of the Americas?

And when a GOP Congressman jokingly talks how the Democratic reps are being "lynched" at their meetings? This fomenting of violence and hatred has to stop. One day someone is going to end up dead, and the people who are whipping up the frenzy are going throw their hands up and say "I never told anyone to do that", just as they do when people like Dr. Tiller are murdered, and they'll not be brought to account for their actions. There's a fine line to walk when you deal with free speech, but those who have the microphones need to self-censor, if only to avoid bloodshed and a further split in the country.

encourging violence, health care, idiots, morons, republicans, politics
