The Good, The Bad; Steve

Jan 16, 2010 18:50

Yesterday was significant for two reasons.

1)  I got off work at exactly 2:00PM, came directly home, took a shower, and then climbed into bed. Did a little reading, but promptly fell asleep. This was at 5:00ish. I heard Mike come home, and I think Zach was with him, but I didn't hear Hans. Was Kathleen over last night? I was in bed for 13 hours, asleep for 11. I woke up at 5:00AM, totally ready for the day... which I rocked.

2)  It was the day after I found out Steve was gone for good to South Korea. That is a mondo drag, because I was using him as a motor.

I need to find a new motor.

It was at least 60 degrees in Denver today. I got off work and spent as much of the rest of daylight outside with Hans and his brother Drew and Drew's two dogs. We played fetch in the backyard, then decided we were game for a walk to Argonaut for a Folly Pack of New Belgium, featuring their new spring seasonal, Mighty Arrow, which is a totally delicious pale ale. Also: their new IPA, called Ranger... and it's delicious, too. The walk was brisk and nice and it was good to stretch the legs for something other than the tortured trudge to Whole Foods in the morning dark.

We saw a Buddhist monk across the street on our walk back. It was good to see more of the area that I live in, versus the straight six blocks to and back from work, or the jaunt to City'o'City or Watercourse, or down eight and out of town. That's most of what I know of Denver. The mall and Cherry Creek and only the part of LoDo that houses The British Bulldog.

I like Denver.

Work is getting better: I'm starting to own the kitchen a little bit; or, at least: my share of it. Once one more person leaves/we hire one more new team member, I should be able to get the days off I want. I'm still thinking I'm going to actively look for other opportunities in late winter/early spring, but if I have to ride this job through the summer or into the fall, and the core line-up of co-workers maintains, things in Denver should be ok.

But I am going to miss Steve.`````````````````
Zach: "I'm glad Steve's gone, so I can finally get back to work... watching cartoons and shit."
