I'm going to look for the precise wording in the coming days*, but watching Charlie Rose interview Bush, I just heard our president say that "if judging whether or not our mission in Iraq is a success based on the amount of car-bombings and suicide-bombings over there, than those who are doing the bombings will have won [because we will have denigrated our measure of success to their terms**]."
But can't we judge our level of success based upon the circumstances we've created in a society that have fueled and inspired car-bombings and suicide-bombings? Wouldn't one or more car-bombings a day constitute as a failure to help secure a civilized, modern society? I mean, Jesus, man: Iraq was a pretty modern country with a pretty well established middle class before we bum-rushed them.
Who put this idiot in charge?
Anyway: Charlie Rose is still an idol in my mind. I live and breathe PBS.
Also: did you see
McCain on The Daily Show. This guy's actually running for President? (Like Kerry '03, remember?) Does McCain's wife own a condiment conglomerate that he can mortgage? Otherwise, he is fucked.

*Fuck that. They charge $20 for a transcript.
**I can only assume that's what he meant by that.
