Warning, May Seem Preachy
Things in my life have come to a point where I am questioning my beliefs and why I act certain ways.
Up until very recently I would react with hostility towards any mention of religion, or mention of God.
I DO believe there is/are God(s), but I also believe that we, as human beings, were given the gift of Free Will.
This means that, while God had a hand in us being here, and he/she/it gave us the tools that we have to deal with life, it is up to us to choose to use the tools for the betterment of ourselves and our society.
My belief is that there are those who will quote the Bible, or the Koran, or whatever religious text that they choose to use, to base their actions upon. While those texts do have good ideas and may provide a foundation for a good behavior system, it is my opinion that trying to interpret what was written originally all those years ago and use them in today's world is asking for trouble.
The Bible is based on tales told for hundreds of years, from one generation to another, of events that supposedly happened. Like anyone who's ever played the game 'Telephone' can tell you, things can get garbled in the telling. Also the daring exploits of certain parties may be exaggerated or diminished based upon the way the speaker / writer wants to portray them.
While my opinion is my own, I try and respect other's beliefs, but lately I've come to the conclusion that I'm not as open and welcoming as I thought I was.
I guess it all boils down to this ... and I'll quote one of my favorite authors here, because it does say what I want to so well :
Evil Done In The Name Of Good Is Still Evil, While Good Done In the Name Of Evil Is Still Good. It Does Not Matter In Whose Name You Do A Deed, As Long As You Leave The World A Better Place By Doing It.
I do apologize if anyone considers this post to be offensive, but I needed to get it off my chest, in hopes that people would understand where I am coming from, when I talk about certain things.
