“I've brought you a gift.”
The impulse to use that line had been too strong to resist. And the look on his face once he unwrapped it was priceless. But Sarah was starting to think that maybe she should have found a way to tell her stepmother what kind of gifts Jareth really didn't need.
Finally Jareth said, “Well. How very kind.” He pulled out the bulky blue sweater Karen had knit, and held it up thoughtfully.
“You don't have to wear it,” Sarah said.
Jareth smiled at her, sharp-edged. “I wouldn't dream of scorning a present.”
