- And if you really want to do things right and impress everyone with your rad German skills: Write nouns with capital letters. Germans will love you forever.
(Basically: Just remember “Bruder” and “Fräulein” are capitalized ;)
One last thing: In case you were wondering - Klavier's German does not make much sense. He's a walking and talking cliché

... if used for a boy.
Not in general.

/random XD

Not Fraulein, not Fraulin and not Frauline and REALLY not Fraulinchen and oh ma GAWD what's a Fraülien?!
THANK YOU. Someone had to say it, finally. I don't know why, but this is what annoys me the most about fanfics with Klavier failing at his own mother tongue. xD

First, this has been bothering me for a super long time, and I'd finally like a definitive answer on the subject. Two characters would never use Sie/formal during love-making, right? (Unless they're being condescending, I would imagine.) I see this all the time in fanfics and my gut tells me that it's not right and that it needs correcting.
Second, maybe this is because I'm learning German at an American university that's pretty far removed from the actual culture, but are you suggesting that in general, we should avoid Tschüss/-chen/etc., or is that just a suggestion in relation to the Gavins? I personally use Tschüss quite frequently and I've never read/been told that it's bad. (And even if it is, I'll probably keep using it.) XD

No, two people usually wouldn't call each other "Sie" during sex, except for maybe, as you said, in a condescending way. Even if it's two people who in a normal conversation would in any case address each other as "Sie", they wouldn't do that in such an intimate situation.
I assume you are a girl, and for a girl it is of course totally okay to say "Tschüss" or call you brother "Brüderchen". It's just that with the Gavin brothers and especially Kristoph that it is better not to use phrases like this. (Of course as a boy you can also say "Tschüss", but it sounds weird (and pretty gay) in fanfiction context if a man uses it ;])

That's what I thought, regarding the formal usage. I blame the popularity of Internet translations that can't differentiate intimacy from normal text, although I really can't fault people who are learning and have accidentally selected the wrong tense. XD
I'm a girl! I'm happy to know that I don't sound like an idiot when I say goodbye. Should I be concerned that that's what they've taught all of us to say? Auf Wiedersehen is just painfully formal... XD

No, I'll not hold it against anybody if they make mistakes in such a crazily difficult language like German, really @__@ Most of us Germans have problems with it!
(and google translate is just... let's not go there.)
Tschüss is competely okay :] Most people in Germany will tell each other Tschüss, really. But grown men still usually don't, especially if they're 30+ years old and lawyers ;]
