MUSICALLY FRUSTRATED

Feb 08, 2007 15:05

I have to vent today.  I'm feeling very musically frustrated. Warning: Extremely Whiny Post.

Just found out the lineup for the upcoming Singapore Mosiac Music Festival in March and am TOTALLY SPEWING because:
a) I won't be able to go to Singapore for 2 weeks to see all the acts I want to see
b)  NONE of the acts (except Chick Corea) are coming to Malaysia, because Malaysia sucks and has no idea about good music in any way, shape or form
c)  It's bloody expensive (STUPID SINGAPOREANS I swear to God sometimes I think the organisers have no brain)- it's listed as a festival but there is no single pass.. you have to pay for each concert separately and they are all about $60Sing (equivalent to $60 australian) PER ACT.  So exorbitantly high costs (at least $600 if I wanted to see everyone) AND
d)  Singapore is generally devoid of culture, most of the people there are too kiasu to appreciate the importance of these acts touring here (because they will NOT tour any other SEA countries)- they don't even freaking deserve this festival.  I mean I guess neither does Malaysia.  But yeah.. I have Singaporean friends who I love very much and who are musicians but even they complain about the crappiness of the cultural arts system over there.

Here's the Line Up, so you can see what I'm spewing about:

Ricki Lee Jones ($118)- I idolise this woman. HOW can she be like 1 hour away by plane and me not go to see her??? She doesn't even play gigs in Australia!
Jose Gonzalez ($58)- so I've seen him play before but I just adore his music and.. Jose live is like nothing else.
Rachael Yamagata ($118)- I've been obsessed with "Happenstance" and she is an amazing artist that I really look up to.  And she's never played in Australia either!
Tristan Prettyman ($38)- seen her play but would love to see her play again!
Femi Kuti ($118)- uh.. who would not want to see the King of African jazz funk?
Ernie Halter (free)- been following him on myspace for years now.. and he's finally coming to this side of the planet.
Duke Ellington Orchestra ($148)- Duke's son and some of the best jazz musos around playing a repertoire of Ella's, Duke's and Louis' work.  WHY WHY WHY can't I be there?
Nerina Pallo ($38)t- another brilliant Myspace artist I've been stalking.  Never thought she'd venture out.
Chick Corea ($118)- well I will see him in KL I thinks.
Can you see why the costing is an issue??

And many more.
Go see on mosaicmusicfestival.com

Ok now that I've calmed down, I might try and catch one or two acts, see if I can make the trip down.  I will have to economise and not see people I've seen before, and pick dates close to each other.  And find people to go with.  And find accomodation (all my Sing friends live in Melbourne!).

Vent over.
Much Love everyone!
