Oh, Futurama...you never steer me wrong.
So, I'm reading articles
about the current apocalyptic prophecy going around and being a wee bit horrified by descriptions of people clearing out their saving accounts and whatnot to follow this guy.
For their sake, it almost seems like the world should end because, come Sunday, it's gonna be the start of a whole slew of bad days for them if it doesn't.
Just because someone's being foolish, it doesn't mean I'm not necessarily going to feel sorry for the trouble they're about to get themselves into as a result of being manipulated by an equally foolish but charismatic leader.
I'm also reading up about
The Great Disappointment and other such
unfulfilled apocalyptic prophecies and wondering what it is about humans that make us keep going down this path, despite the many, many disproved prophecies out there. If you're Christian, it even says right in the manual, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Mark 13:32
Yet, shockingly, here's a group of holier-than-thou types that claim to have just that knowledge! Or the ones who support the state of Israel simply because they think doing so will bring about the apocalypse faster.
Because, y'know, being like Jesus totally means using fellow human beings as means to an end.
Even the CDC is getting in on the act as they
blog about staying calm as one preps for the zombie apocalypse.
But me? I'm going to continue watching the sheer human drama of it all play out with interest as I keep on knitting socks and brainstorming on the novel idea that's been taking over my brain.
After all, my horoscope told me today that, "It's time to start actually working on some of those plans that you've been dreaming up lately. Good energy is in your favor as you find ways to make your dreams come to life, so think big!"
And prophecies are never wrong, right?
