Found in an entry over on chocoholics ...

The FDA is considering changing the definition of chocolate so that manufacturers can call items without cocoa butter chocolate. They're also proposing to allow milk substitutes in products labeled as milk chocolate. This would allow "mockolate" to fit the requirements to be labeled as chocolate, a change being backed by the Chocolate Manufacturers Association. The proposed relaxation of ingredient requirements would result not only in confusion for the consumer and degradation of the quality of chocolate overall, but also in an increase in the amount of unhealthy trans fats in chocolate.

None of what is being proposed benefits the consumer, nor was any consumer research submitted to support such changes. To encourage chocolate-lovers to speak out, the Guittard company has set up a site called, appropriately enough, Don't Mess With Our Chocolate. They make it simple and straightforward to let the FDA know that we like chocolate just the way it is. You can also find more information at Candyblog.

ETA: Spread the word, won't you? We need to have as many dissenting opinions as possible registered with the FDA before April 25th.
