umm for outside maybe rieman gardens? or central campus. or a park. Hickory hall is nice ive been to weddings there and hickory park catering yum! The MU was my dream location plus you could get the hotel rooms upstairs. also theirs a hotel in walking distance of hickory hall also.
I looked at the wineries around ames and they require an armed police office per so many guests you have if you have alcohol there and you got to pay them.
When people ask questions about the wedding, just say you are looking but leaving your options open. honestly some are interested and some are just being polite.
I agree with sara, people ask questions about the wedding because most of the time it's just the flow of conversation. Just tell them your still working on it all.
As for planning I started with just writing all parts of a wedding down then breaking it down from there. Rehearsal Ceremony Reception Then figure out what you need/want at each one. I also used theknot.com they have monthly checklists on what they suggest doing.
I'm planning to come visit soon and we can go over things if you want. P.s. I love planning weddings so if I over step just tell me and I'll back off :)
I don't know ames very well so my opinion for places won't really count.
