The system that I use to do my testing for work is currently down and I have nothing to work on so I figured I would update you guys! Just as heads up this is turning into a novel….
**Disclosure**I’m not talking about you guys when I say this. It’s mainly people at work.
I’ve been engaged for about a week and a half now which is not a lot of time. People are starting to drive me nuts. I guess I should have sat down and planned my wedding before I told people that I was engaged. It seems like every person wants to know when the wedding is, when it will be and all the details! It’s getting a little exhausting having to say, probably sometime next fall, probably in Ames. Okay, end of rant.
I don’t have a ton of stuff going on in my life. The biggest thing is the engagement. I’m not sure how to go about planning and making decisions for the wedding. I suppose I should start with a budget. But after that, do I pick a date or do I pick a venue? Right now Michael is really set on getting married in September of next year. We’ll probably get married in Ames so that could be a huge issue because Ames on a home football game day is horrible. His solution is to get married on a Friday before a game. Sara I know one of your friends did that, had a ceremony on Friday and then had the reception at the football game. I’m not sure if I would want to do exactly that but I’m kind of starting to like the idea of getting married on a Friday instead of a Saturday. I’ve been looking up prices of different venues in Ames and right now I’m considering The MU, The Alumni Center (my dad is really pushing for this one, he had a Fiji dinner there a couple of weeks ago and really liked it), Hickory Hall (that’s Hickory Park’s banquet hall) and then I’ve kind of thought about Prairie Moon but they don’t have like any information on their site. Do you guys have any suggestions? I like the idea of an outdoor ceremony but I’m not sure of a place that would be good to do that in Ames.
Michael and I setup a joint checking account over the weekend. That was a way bigger process than I thought it would be. I thought it would take less than half an hour to do, but we were there for probably an hour and a half. We now have a personal banker that’s working with us on our finances. He saw that I have student loans through Wells Fargo so he setup an appointment for me to come back to call them to try to get the interest rate lowered. I did that yesterday and I was really excited about it. We went through the whole process and in order to get a better rate you have to apply for a new loan, and I got denied. I still need to work on improving my credit score. But at least now I know how much money I could be saving once I get that all resolved.
I still haven’t heard anything about the second job that I applied for. The deadline for the application was on 4/11 so it’s really weird that I haven’t heard anything yet. The only good thing is that none of the other interns have heard anything either. I’m hoping it’s just taking so long because we are super busy right now. We’re at the end of a release so we have a lot of deadlines that we have to meet. I guess we’ll see what happens. I really really don’t want to go back on the phones. So much has changed in the four months that I’ve been off them. Not to mention I would get a raise if I got the new job.
I’m slowly moving all my stuff over to Michael’s place. I have a feeling I’m going to have to get rid of a bunch of stuff because his place isn’t huge. The bed is still broken, but we did go and get a piece of lumber to fix it. We just need to drill holes in it and then it should be an easy process from there. I hope that we get it finished this week. I invited my parents down to Des Moines for Mother’s day weekend and I told them they could stay in the extra room. So we need to get the bed fixed and pick up my mattress and box spring from Ames.
I know I set out a lot of goals for myself and so far I’m failing miserably at them. I’m trying to do a better job in regards to what I eat. Today I’m not doing so well because Michael stopped by Dunkin and got doughnuts for his team. I’ve had two already. I’m trying to do better about eating at home rather than ordering food or going out to eat. I’m going to try to limit it to once a week unless there’s a special occasion. We got a membership to Costco, hopefully it helps in buying stuff to make at home. They have large pieces of salmon instead of the small individual portions and it tastes so much better when you cook it in a large piece and then cut it to serve. I think I may try to start doing more crockpot meals. That way there’s food ready when I get off work and then there should be leftovers as well.
I think that’s really all I have at the moment.
