This morning I brought Spotless to the vet and my appointment was delayed an hour. A couple came in with their cat, who was dragging it's hind legs and unable to control it's bladder. The man was holding it in the blanket. It was a cute, fluffy calico. It turned out that they needed to put the cat down. I was waiting in the reception area, when the woman came out hysterical. The man came about five minutes later, crying. It was awful. I have had to put two animals down and it was among the toughest decisions I have ever had to make. I felt really bad for them. When I brought Spotless into the exam room, I could see the body of the cat on a metal table to the side. It wasn't in the exam room, but the room is partially open to the back area. It was a bad start to the morning.
Spotless is doing a little better. He lost about a pound, but some of his Kidney function is almost normal. He is still technically in renal failure, but not doing too bad. I need to bring him back for another blood test in August. When Spotless was being held at the vets, I came home to grab a book and let Nicolette have the run of the house. She loves to attack Spotless. The first thing she did was run out and look for him. When she didn't find him, she started howling and acting as if she was concerned. When I brought him home, she ran up to him, smelled him and bumped heads with him. I think she may have missed him!
Home Update- The flooring for the upstairs bathroom has been started. Initially they thought that we might need to rip out the tub, but it's stable. Tomorrow they are going to finish the job. Hopefully we can tile it next week. A guy came to measure the kitchen counters. Next week, the hardwood floors go in. It's very slowly taking shape!
Back to the cat thing...on Sunday we went to brunch for Marc's birthday. My mom's best friend, Nancy, came along and we gave her a book that we had bought for her at the UCLA Festival of Books. Nancy is basically a stereotype of the crazy cat lady. She must have at least twelve cats and volunteers at a cat rescue. We found this book that a woman wrote from her cat's perspective. It seemed silly, but a good gift. We had the author sign it. The cat's name is "Chloe Ann." On the way to brunch, I was looking at the book and it turns out that the cat's original name was "Penny." My mom's name was Penny...kind of a freaky coincidence!
