The One With the Update

Oct 11, 2004 20:42

It has been far too long since I have updated. But I have a project due tomorrow that I haven't started yet, so I figured that now was as good a time as any to update...and procrastinate.

My practicum is going well, so far. The class that I observe has lots of good kids and the teacher is really nice. I don't have too many interesting stories, I'm sad to report, but I have a lot of fun when I'm there. Thursday, I'm going to get to teach the class the whole time because Mrs. Fox trusts me more than the sub that will be there. Hahaha. I rule.

The girl that I tutor is a real sweetheart. And someone knew what they were doing when they matched us. She loves country music, always wanted her hair long like Crystal Gayle's, AND watches "Bonanza". What's funny is that when I've mentioned this to friends, at least two people automatically asked me if she was Catholic, too. Do I have, "If You're Catholic, You Can Be My Friend" written across my forehead or something???

I'd like to say that Julie Simmons is awesome for spending about an hour and a whole roll of film taking pictures of me on Wednesday. I know that it was for a project for her class, but I just like getting so much indivualized attention. ;-)

This weekend was great. I got home to Springfield around 6, and had strawberry daiquiries with my parents before we watched the Presidential Debate. Anyone need some wood??? On Saturday, Rach and I went to D.C. to the Book Festival on the Mall. We got to listen to readings from David Rice, Kathleen Krull (I think) and R. L. Stine, who does look as scary as he writes. All three were very entertaining. I could have stayed there all day, had Rach and I not already planned to go shopping in Georgetown. In Georgetown, we got to walk around George Washington University's housing and maybe some of the academic buildings? We were too busy trying to find the street where we shopped during Spring Break of Freshman year. It took a while. We did find it eventually, though, and celebrated by eating at Johnny Rocket's. This place was cool because we got to play songs for 5 cents on the jukebox and all the servers had to dance when "Stayin' Alive" came on.

When I got home, one of the guys that works with my dad and his wife were there and everyone was quite happy with the pina coladas and margaritas that my dad made for them. I had a couple margaritas so that my dad couldn't send me to the grocery store. Eventually, we did cook out, and Johnny drove to his house, got his kids, and brought them by. They were 16, 7, and 6, respectively and they were all good kids. Especially the two little ones. My parents told me that little Catherine is just like me when I was 7. I barely got to talk to her at all because she was being kinda shy, but she still ran over to me and gave me a hug before she left. I love kids.

Now that I've wasted my time and yours, I'm going to go do homework. By the way, I have not skipped one class this entire semester. I'm awesome. Later!
