Part Six

"Alice?  What can you see?  Did they get there in time?" Bella asked, her concern for her friend evident in her voice.  It didn't matter that she hadn't been able to see Angela Weber since before she'd become a vampire... Since before she'd even become pregnant with Renesmee as a human.  Angela had always been a good friend to her, and the idea of her being sacrificed to open up some sort of dimension to evil monsters or whatever... Well, in addition to sounding absolutely insane, it also sounded horrible, and if there was any way to stop it, Bella was all for it.

"They got her," Rosalie said suddenly, lifting a hand to show the phone she held.  "Emmett just texted me.  He, Edward, and Demetri are bringing her back."

"What about Jasper and Felix?"

"They're staying behind to take care of things," Alice said.  "I see the decisions... They're going to make it look like a break-in.  Vandalism.  They'll make sure nothing of Angela's is still there.  They'll take care of the bodies of the Keepers."

"They killed them?  All of them?" Jacob asked, and Alice shrugged.

"I didn't see the fight, so I don't know how anyone died.  But one of the bodies... There was scorch marks.  I could see them when Jasper and Felix decided what to do with them.  I'm following Jasper's future right now.  He's the easiest to see."

"Scorch marks, you say?  Perhaps hit by one of their own.  If the Keepers were witches, it could be from a spell," Carlisle said quietly.  "Alice, can you see...?"

"Emmett is driving like a maniac with Edward listening for the minds of any nearby cops.  They should get Angela here in about half an hour.  Jasper and Felix will be running, but they shouldn't be much after the others.  It won't take them long to clean things up," she said, and Carlisle nodded, satisfied with the answer as he headed out of the room, but the wolf among them still had questions.

"What if someone finds the bodies?" Jacob wanted to know.

"The animals will get to them before that happens.  It's a little cold for people to go out camping right now.  If they're found, there won't be much left.  People will assume that they're hikers that got lost and died from the elements.  And even if they were found, they can't be connected to us.  Jasper and Felix will take their cloaks.  It's the only part of them that would have fingerprints," Alice told the shapeshifter.  "I know that human life is precious, but they wanted to sacrifice Angela to free their... gods... for lack of a better word, so I'm sorry, but I'm not very upset about them dying."

Jacob sighed.  "Honestly, I'm not either, considering what those two bloodsuckers told us about them," he said.  "Look, I probably ought to phase to let Leah and the others know that Jasper and that big guy will be running through the area before long.  They would recognize Jasper's scent, but they won't know the other one.  They left before they got a chance to scent him.  We don't want any unnecessary fights out there, you know?  I'm sure Jasper could use his voodoo powers to calm things down, but maybe not before someone gets hurt."

Alice made a face at Jacob's back as he headed outside to phase.  "My husband does not have 'voodoo' powers!"

"Whatever you say, Short Stuff," Jacob tossed back with a smirk.  Odd as it might seem, the pack Alpha and the tiny vampire had actually become friends over the past year and change, finding common ground back when Bella was pregnant, and simply staying at ease with one another even after things with Bella and Renesmee turned out the way they did.  Jasper was unbothered by it, mostly because whatever made Alice happy usually made him happy.

"Can you see anything else?" Bella asked as Jacob went off to phase and talk to his pack, and Alice shook her head.

"There are too many possibilities.  Too many ways that Angela could react, the decision of keeping her here for awhile or immediately taking her somewhere else... I can't tell what's going to happen.  I can't even tell if we're going to be able to keep her safe.  There are definite dark spots in my visions, though, which means that at least Jacob sticks with us no matter what.  Possibly some of the others, too."

"If we leave town to take Angela to a safe house, the one with the imprint on the reservation probably won't come," Rose said as she sat down on the couch.  She shrugged as Bella looked over at her.  "I figure that the whole family will be going.  You and Edward and Alice will all want to go... Jasper will choose to go for Alice's sake, and you know Esme.  Someone else to mother.  She'd be happy to go for Angela's sake, and that makes five right there.  Add Carlisle in there because it would be protecting human life, and Emmett because he loves a good fight..."

"That's everyone but you."

"I go where my family goes.  And if Edward says she has one of the kindest minds he's ever listened to... Then she's probably a genuinely nice person and, well... I'm not exactly a big fan of some innocent girl being sacrificed so the bad guys can get what they want.  So I'm in.  And since Demetri and Felix said these Chosen girls can know about vampires, then we won't have to hide from her," the blonde said, then arched a brow at Bella.

"Which freaks you out a little, doesn't it?"

"Only because I don't know how she'll react.  I kind of doubt that Angela has really been around the supernatural before.  I mean, knowingly."

"Odds are she's starting to figure that out about now.  The scorch marks I saw on the one Keeper in my vision... If it's magic like Carlisle suggested, then she probably has some sort of an idea that there's something supernatural out there.  And if the Keepers were trying to kidnap her, and her old friend Edward showed up with some friends to save her, then she might be more inclined to accept us.  Especially since she spent time hanging out with us before we graduated."

"Not to mention the fact that Alice still sees her," Rosalie put in.  "Vampires or not, we're the familiar.  She knows she's been around us without being hurt before.  That should help, even if she does freak out at first."  The blonde stood up.  "I know they said something about securing a safe house for her, but since they didn't say they already had one, I'm guessing that Angela will be staying here for at least a night or two.  Especially considering how late it already is.  Once they adrenaline wears off, she'll probably be beat.  I'm going to head upstairs to set up a room for her."

Bella smiled slightly as she watched her sister - for that's what Rose was to her now, just as much as Alice was - head for the stairs.  "It's amazing to me now, how scared I used to be of you."

"I wasn't very gracious to you."

"You had your reasons."

"I did.  And those reasons are gone now.  And Angela didn't ask to be this Chosen one... Or one of three, from what they said.  She has no choice in this.  So I'll help.  And I'll try to be nice."

"Thank you, Rose."

"You're welcome, sister of mine.  Both of you."
