1. Vala had her second round of shots yesterday. She cried a little bit but was very well behaved. They cleaned her ears a bit too. There's still gunk but no more mites thankfully. They vet and her assistant kept marveling over how well behaved she is. They called her an angel. I told them they should try sleeping in the same room as her (even though I agree with them). To reward her, when I went to Petco for food and a harness/leash (I'm going to leash train her for travel) I got her a nylon kitty tunnel. She loves it. So much that I have to put it away at night or there's no way to sleep. And speaking of sleep, she let me stay in bed until 9 this morning! New record!
2. I finished Stargate: Atlantis. Whyyyyy! Why did it have to be canceled! I want more. At the very least I want more Stargate SG1/Stargate Atlantis crew members to show up on Universe. I don't care if it doesn't make sense, that show still isn't clicking so I might as well get to see my favorite characters if I'm going to keep sitting through it. I really loved the control room gal who started getting a bit more prominence towards the end. I wanted to see more of her. I kind of like the idea of her and Ronan, even if we didn't see enough to really call it a ship. And Teyla killing Michael was very satisfying and a fitting end to that arch. She was the one who most wanted to give him a chance in the beginning, and she was the one who realized that no number of chances would make a difference and ended it.
3. In the ever changing saga that is my travel plans, I might be able to drive after all. Remember how I said I couldn't short of a friend or family member volunteering? So far 3 family members are interested if they can make the scheduling work.
My brother Chris is a pretty sure thing. The only problem is his break from school is in June, so I'd have to stay a little longer than I wanted to after graduating. Which isn't the end of the world. Assuming I don't have a job waiting in Portland already (or that said job doesn't mind if I don't start until June) staying an extra month would mean working an extra month at full time, which would help but a few more hundred dollars in my bank account. His car is pretty big, but not huge, and it would need a few repairs first.
The second option is my parents, who would dearly love to go because my mom would love to see her family out there again, but their schedules could be a problem. Not so much my dad, he can generally take off whenever because he gets paid vacations. But my mom is a business owner who staffing for the spring/summer could be iffy and who doesn't have a lot of excess revenue right now to be taking a lot of time off. Their van is also a lot bigger than my brother's car. It's also older and has a lot more miles, and my mom has to check with her mechanic to see if he thinks it'll make it through the mountains.
Oh, and my mom did mention that they're considering giving me their van. Yeah. I mean, it's a minivan, but it's a free car, so I ain't exactly complaining. They'd have to get a replacement car though and I don't know that I want them taking on a car payment at the moment. Still, it's their lives, if they want to I won't turn it down. I'd still probably take the bus most places in Portland, to save on gas and maintenance, but it would be nice to be able to go to the beach. Plus then I'd have something to trade in if I ever wanted to get another car. The van probably isn't worth a whole lot so I'm sure I'd still end up paying at least a couple thousand, but everything helps.
