what a shitty weekend. Just felt blah the whole time. Didn't even go to work yesterday cause I was all achy everywhere. Dennis has been sick, I've been sick and cranky. Just not happy. Saturday we went to buy cat food, and Dennis looked at some golf clubs. He's got a match this weekend with people from church, and his clubs are in Portland. Ended up not finding anything. We swung by the house of some people from my church who were having a graduation party. It was rainy and not very warm. Probably why I ended up feeling so icky the two days afterwards. We also went to best buy. Dennis bought a PS2 and GTA:Vice City. He spent pretty much all weekend playing it. This rather annoyed me, cause I wanted to get stuff done n such. But at the same time, I had so much fun watching him play. It really is a fun game. Even if all you do is drive around and wreck cars. (I suck at video games, especially driving ones) That was pretty much it. With both of us being sick, we really didn't do much of anything.
Let's talk about something way happier, and nearer and dearer to my heart currently than sucky weekends and messy apartments.
Riding on Friday was great. I was on Sally. Last time I rode Sally, she *completely* took off with me at a gallop and I was in no control at all. Riding Sally was interesting. Firstly, she doesn't understand English the way Mille does. In a way, this is good, cause it makes me make the horse trot, instead of (in Mille's case) the horse hearing the instructor say "trot" and just going with it. Learning how to make Sally go faster was interesting too. If I gave her a small kick, she would sort of canter half a stride before trotting at the newer speed. This always resulted in me losing my balance and ending up on the wrong diagonal. With Mille, no matter how much she tripped up, I usually managed to keep the diagonal right. So I learned I just had to give a squeeze each time I was in the saddle to get Sally to slowly pick up the pace. It was slow, but far more smooth. Then Linda decided it was time for cantering. Without the longe line. Thankfully, one at a time. I got to go first. Now, last time I tried cantering on Sally, I ended up all over the arena, at almost a full gallop, with absolutely no control.
(See this entry for full details of the incident) So I was just a bit nervous. Not only that, Linda had set up cones that we had to go through. So not only did I have to canter and not let the horse get away from me, but I also had to have enough control to steer her through these cones. I was a bit more than nervous at this point. But it went just *perfectly*! Sally had an easy canter, and unlike Mille, I didn't have to keep her going; she kept going until I told her to stop. I was worried at one point that she might not stay down at our third of the arena, so I cut her over too soon and missed the cones once, but it was still very good for my second time solo. It seems as though I may not be riding Mille anymore. I'll miss her muchly, but in a way, I'm glad; her canter is rather... Mille is a huge horse, and when she canters, she breathes hard, and sounds very much like a steam engine that is going to just plow over everything in its path. And her canter isn't that smooth, and like I said, you really have to keep her going; she'll stop the first chance she gets. I can't wait till next lesson!
