So we went kayaking for a bit today. Rented a kayak and took ours out to the lake. I took our boat, and let Dennis take the rental. Figuring out how to use the feathered paddle didn't really take long. Got the hang of it fairly quickly.
But I was having major issues keeping her straight. Usually, a longer kayak is hard to turn, but tends to track straight and fast. This puppy seems able to turn on a dime. And it seems that if you don't keep your body perfectly perfectly level and balanced, she'll start drifting to one side. At one point I had to do some ten strokes on one side to keep her straight. I'm not sure if it was because of the paddle, or if that's just the way the boat is. Next time I'll force Dennis to swap paddles with me to see which it is.
Not the best paddle I've been on. Actually, this one was probably the worst. I was fighting with the boat the whole time to try and keep her straight. Also, my shoulders were still worn out from the dumbbell presses I'd done during crossfit, so I got tired very quickly fighting that heavy boat. But even a sucky kayak trip is leagues better than sitting at home on the couch!
