Claudia felt empty.
It wasn’t just the loss of the Warehouse or Steve’s death, or the realization of exactly what the Regents were actually capable of.
She was already an expert in denial, a skill that served her well. There was one fact she couldn’t ignore. Things had changed between her and Myka. She’d really believed they had a special kind of chemistry until she saw how Myka and HG looked at each other. You could feel the electricity.
If she hadn’t been so worried about Steve she might have seen it sooner.
Or maybe she didn’t want to know.
