Freddie and Hector...how do you see the power dynamic there? Hector is older, and would seem to be the obvious leader, but he's so angsty---I really think Freddie has more confidence. Not sure, in Freddie's case, whether it's recklessness or real courage, as witness his dogged pursuit of the Truth, despite threats and whatnot.
I've been waiting until the show finished to answer this question, because I wanted to see if the ending changed my feelings. At this point, I still the power dynamics could go either way, although I think the ending does leave Hector emotionally diminished. I really have to find out if there's a fandom as such and much as I'm considering walking away from yuletide, I also want to make sure there is The Hour fic and might just have to play along this year to both nominate, offer and request it.
Not sure what I'm going to do about Yuletide this year, since I'll be sans steady computer access as of Wednesday. I'll be finding hotspots to check my mail and LJ, of course, but if things don't pick up PDQ, I'm going to be sitting in the dark and sending up smoke signals.
Oh honey! *HUGS* Getting away from Yuletide might be a good thing for either of us, but being deprived of consistent internet access...I'm not sure I could manage. Although next year I'm NOT doing any year-long projects specifically so I have the option of spending time in the real world without having to worry about the issue.
We've actually seen the Flecktones live in concert a few times, including Hardly Strictly about three ago. They always put on a great show, although I don't necessarily consider them a group that you have to see live to appreciate.
Also, we saw Bela in person at the Roxy Theater for a documentary he was involved in called "Throw Down Your Heart." He seemed to be just as nice in person as he comes across on stage and in the move. He actually signed Hubby's banjo.
I've never had the chance to see them perform, but they play them a lot on our local jazz station, which is how I discovered them.
Your hubby has a banjo? Cool! Is he a Steve Martin fan too?
BTW, very sorry about your finch. Birds are tricky, health-wise, and I probably wouldn't have one again (I've had 3 budgies, and like you, I think one committed murder by beak).
If you're experiencing low blood sugar, that's not good, especially if you're trying to exercise every day. PM or e-mail me if you want some info on a healthy diet that's worked for me in the past (not really a diet, more like a permanent way of eating; no money involved except buying one paperback book). I don't push my opinions on others, so you can just ignore me if you're not interested. But please don't let your blood sugar run low, 'cos that's dangerous.
If you get a chance, look for a DVD called "Live At The Quick." It's an awesome concert, with some great guest performers and the DVD a fun "backstage" extra featurette as well.
Yeah I can sympathize, I had a small parakeet once, and all it did was squawk and bite me, I never liked it much :P
Steini really wants a Congo African Grey or something like that, a bird you can teach stuff to, and has personality, but my almost non-existent dealings with birds make me a little nervous.
Well we weren't even supposed to have the bird. It's technically a no-pet apartment. At least it was when we moved in. Since then some people have been allowed to bring in dogs if they promise that won't bark. (WTF?) We had a pet snake for years, but again, not a lot of connection there. Just a constant repetition of feeding and cleaning.
I still have a dream that someday I'll be in a position (house and yard) to own the puppy of my dreams.
Sorry about your finch. It's sad to watch any animal succumb to poor health. There so little you can do for birds.
Hey, I don't know if it helps, but I'm a blasphemer too. I almost went into shock when I heard HL sing St. James Infirmary on the Jay Leno show. His voice was too high and reedy for my taste. And I don't know, but you can't just sing or admire the blues. It has to be part of who you are to belt out convincingly. I have diligently avoided hearing anymore cuts from the album.
I'm glad it's not just me. Although strangely enough I though he was actually singing too low for his actual range in an attempt to sound "bluesy." And honestly, if you can't do St. James Infirmary with any credibility you're in trouble, because that's probably the "easiest" song on the album.
I think the finch went fairly quickly, although part of the problem is that we didn't pay a lot of attention to her during the work week. :(

Do you think you will try out another pet?
