Odd thoughts on people who matter

May 23, 2009 01:06

Sudden urge to go back to my old school, attach myself to my teachers, and never let go. These people have changed my life in ways they - and I - can't even imagine. What I am is 50% part of what they made me. The rest is just what I did with that 50% in the time that's come after. How do I ever say good-bye to these people, now that some of the ( Read more... )

History teacher. Well, he was my history teacher in 6th grade and was the first to inspire my love for it. Two years later he became my theology teacher (catholic). He was the one who taught me that even at a Catholic school run by nuns it was okay to have your own opinion and all. And then in 12th grade he became my history teacher again and letting him go when we finished school was hard. He helped me through quite a few hard times. I try to see him at alumni meetings but he has two little kids (maybe more now?) and a wife and he doesn't usually stay very long.

I know he remembers me. He is a great and wonderful man.

The people who really made a difference in your life, you can't really thank, either they aren't around to talk to, or frankly, it's not that important to them, if they are a teacher, they teach. What you can do is try to provide that for someone else, that's the way to thank them.

*g* The nice thing about this batch of teachers is that they really care. It's been three years since I left, and three years since I first started going back, again and again and again since my four years there were up. But it's hard whenever they leave, still: you never want to break that boundary in your mind, even if it's been broken already for years.

I've never had a professor change my life, but coworkers and friends I've made on LJ have really impacted my life in a positive way.

i wouldn't exactly say teachers changed my life, but they definitely did nudge my life in particular directions. my jc maths teacher - super funny, charismatic, student-centred guy - came to my sec sch to promote his jc. it firmed up my decision to apply for tat jc after 'o's, and as fate would have it, he was one of my tutors and he became my interim guardian :p (cuz i was an overseas student). definitely my most fav teacher ever. we din't really keep in much contact after i graduated, but years later, when i was visiting my dad where he lectures at the uni, i walked past the door to my dad's neighbour's room, and guess whose name i saw there? XDD ( ... )

Your teachers sounds really awesome - how rare is that? It's always amazing when these super busy teachers of ours take time out to care. 8D I mean, when you're past university and everything must seem pretty set and independent, but when you're in school something like a teacher giving you a leg up can change the entire course of where you go in life.

lolz, i must be biased - cuz both my parents are teachers and i think they are awesome :p and i strongly believe tat ppl should go into academia only if teaching others is their prime motivation - and not cuz 'oh i did this engineering degree and now i can't find work and i'll jus teach for the time being instead'. very not on >_

I've always had great relations with teachers... taking dinner in with my headteacher and english teacher at school and going back to a previous school all hours given us in the evening to prepare for a play of approx 80 pages in two weeks... and that is not to mention that my psychology teacher in college went and brought me a Christmas tree when I was living alone, or the fact that I still write 10 years on to my english teacher at college. Some of my other teachers were also very special, Mrs. Blom and Simon... main teacher and philosophy respectively ( ... )

I TOO WANT TEACHERS WHO WILL BUY ME CHRISTMAS TREES. xD Or whom I can buy Christmas trees in return.

D: I cannot believe the teacher that told you that you gave her a nervous breakdown, though. You were eight! And even if you weren't eight, I'm pretty sure that's just Not Cool to say something like that. DDDDDDDDDDD:

♥ Also it is v. cool that your older brother get along so well. \o Mine always sort of tease me through life, which is great in some senses and infuriating in others. But we are v. different people, so! 8D Family = Just That Way (TM).

askghdfl I KNOW! I moved out when I was just turning 17 so was actually putting on Xmas for my mom that year and was stressing about money and whatnot. Had a double psychology lesson one morning and she told me to stop worrying and to enjoy Xmas as a teenager and not to try and be so adult... in the lunchbreak she went into the town square, got me a tree, then found me after lunch to take me home. I was like .............WOW THANK YOU! THANK YOU ( ... )
