Odd thoughts on people who matter

Sudden urge to go back to my old school, attach myself to my teachers, and never let go. These people have changed my life in ways they - and I - can't even imagine. What I am is 50% part of what they made me. The rest is just what I did with that 50% in the time that's come after. How do I ever say good-bye to these people, now that some of the ( Read more... )

i wouldn't exactly say teachers changed my life, but they definitely did nudge my life in particular directions. my jc maths teacher - super funny, charismatic, student-centred guy - came to my sec sch to promote his jc. it firmed up my decision to apply for tat jc after 'o's, and as fate would have it, he was one of my tutors and he became my interim guardian :p (cuz i was an overseas student). definitely my most fav teacher ever. we din't really keep in much contact after i graduated, but years later, when i was visiting my dad where he lectures at the uni, i walked past the door to my dad's neighbour's room, and guess whose name i saw there? XDD

and my poly lecturer was the one who advised me to take up sponsorship with the hospital i'm working at now, even tho it was rather out of the way for me. if he hadn't, i'm sure i wouldn't have had the experiences i did, both professionally and personally, so i always appreciate tat he pushed me thru to consider a long-term plan instead of focusing on the short-term inconveniences :) i still keep in sporadic contact with him (...recently someone intro'd him to me on facebook... LOLZ)

u prob dun need to noe more of this very longwinded ramble :)

Your teachers sounds really awesome - how rare is that? It's always amazing when these super busy teachers of ours take time out to care. 8D I mean, when you're past university and everything must seem pretty set and independent, but when you're in school something like a teacher giving you a leg up can change the entire course of where you go in life.

lolz, i must be biased - cuz both my parents are teachers and i think they are awesome :p and i strongly believe tat ppl should go into academia only if teaching others is their prime motivation - and not cuz 'oh i did this engineering degree and now i can't find work and i'll jus teach for the time being instead'. very not on >_
