It's time once again for my yearly interstate road trip.
The plan, like last year, is to take I-5 South through California to I-40 near LA, then head East on I-40 through Arizona, stopping for a few days in Prescott to spend Christmas with my parents. I-40 will take me to I-25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I-25 will carry me North to the Denver Area to spend another couple of days hanging out with the Denver folks, including, but not limited to,
neonphog,
laurenlydon, and
kadell_cat.
Whether to take I-25 farther north to I-80 in Cheyenne, or to take I-70 West from Denver to US Highway 6 to I-80 near Salt Lake City remains to be decided. It's been a few years since I've gone the I-70 route...
Either way, I-80 will split off to I-84 North of SLC, and I-84 will take me home.
There's something different this time, though. This time I have the dates planned out!
I have 34 hours of vacation left in the year, and it turns out four days (32 hours) will cover me from Dec 22 to Jan 1 inclusive.
Then plan is to leave Portland the morning of Saturday the 22nd and head to San Jose, CA (~10.5 hrs) and crash on
mayamaia's couch. Sunday morning I'll head out again and get to Prescott about 12 hours later. I plan to stay in Prescott until the 28th, heading out again and arriving in Denver 13 hours later and staying a few days.
Then begins the longest leg of the trip... Denver to Portland is about 18 hours. I'll leave on the morning of the first and hopefully arrive home just in time to go to bed to get up for work on the second. ;)

Total driving distances / times:
Taking I-25 North to I-80 to I-84 (Route A):
3,527 mi - about 2 days 5 hours
Taking I-70 West to US 6 to I-15 to I-84 (Route B):
3,558 mi - about 2 days 7 hours
Just for fun, here's a (rough) map of
Route A If you're somewhere near this route and want to hang out as I drive by (especiall on that last leg... Wyoming and Eastern Oregon are so very boring ...) let me know! I love meeting people on my friends list. :)
