Duncan Hunter is a fucking dildo. All of the current and ex-military contacts I have could give a shit less what color or orientation the guy next to them is. Like my friend MSgt Billy (Marine Corps, MEU, ret) always said: "Any man or woman who is willing to enlist in the big green machine is my brother or sister and I'm proud to serve with them,". Billy is a bit progressive for a Marine- my point being all the G.I.s I know are more comfortable with the idea of homosexuals in combat than womens, and even that is changing as Afghanistan and Iraq drag on and more and more "support personnel" are taking fire...
I think the whole idea of the sexual distraction of homosexuals ("well, they see all them young men showering, and Cha-Zowie!" kind of thinking) is silly. The fact is, G.I.s of any service branch will raze the living shit out of their best friend as well as their worst enemy, racial and sexual epithets are thrown around more casually than with a bunch of backwards hat wearing Limp Bisquick fans. If anybody can tolerate that environment, the pressure of potential sudden death, the backbreaking menial bullshit... well, good on 'em
