One Glee thought:
I've read some reactions--not a whole lot, but enough--about Mercedes and Rachel's diva-off, who was better, who deserved the role, possible race issues, etc. One thing I'm surprised I haven't seen yet:
Why did they let Rachel choose which musical the school put on? Of course she's going to choose a play where she fits the main role--where, as the directors commented, they'd pretty much thought she was a lock, at least until they heard Mercedes. If they were doing Dreamgirls, Mercedes would've been a lock. Or Kurt for La Cage aux Folles, or...you get my drift.
One of the things about the talent of singers on Glee is that it's often a true comparison of apples and oranges. (Usually, things people say are like comparing apples and oranges are actually like comparing apples and bicycles. Think about it: apples and oranges are round, fruits, juicy, roughly the same size, sweet, etc.) Anyway, they're alike in that they're all good singing voices, but there are some recipes in which apples are going to work and you can't replace them with oranges, and others where it's vice versa.
So why did Rachel get to decide which recipe they were making, which just happened to have her as the obvious main ingredient? I can't say I really blame Rachel for it, but I wouldn't blame Mercedes or anybody else for being angry about everybody falling into line automatically behind Rachel's plan, either.
