Trump has been consistently ahead of Biden in the polling averages since October 2023, and on June 8th Biden hit his lowest ever average approval rating of 37.4%.
Whereas four years ago today, Biden led Trump in the polling average by 8 points.
So, what does a co-chair of Biden's re-election campaign (James Clyburn, age 83) say?
“I think Joe Biden is doing exactly what he needs to do to win reelection. I think the polling, something is amiss with the polling. I don't know what's happening here, but I do know this: that anybody who believes that Donald Trump will get 30% of the Black male vote or 12% of the Black female vote, I got a bridge down there on Johns Island I'll sell you.”
Something is amiss with the polling? I don't know what's happening here?
I'm tempted to bet some of my play money on Trump in the betting markets, except it is illegal in the US to bet on a federal election outcome. Housing costs have doubled under Biden, he's obviously too old for the job, 60% disapprove of his handling of foreign policy, and yet Democrats think something is amiss with the polling.
There are definitely times when a political party deserves to lose, even when you personally might prefer their positions on the issues. Such as when that political party renominates the most unpopular incumbent since the advent of modern polling after WW2.
Something is amiss with the polling.
