Around 3pm, as I was preparing for the last meeting of my work day, thinking that B would be coming over at 5pm, he texted me & T that he'd just been diagnosed with a detached retina and was being prepared for emergency surgery.
As both T and B's husband are out of town, I figured it would fall to me to take care of B. But it turned out the earliest they could schedule the surgery is 11am tomorrow, and B's husband got on the road to drive here -- he'll likely arrive around midnight tonight. So, B's husband will provide the immediate support tomorrow.
I told B that I'm available for anything he needs, but he was allowed to drive himself to his condo from the ER. Upon arriving there, he asked whether I'd pick him up and feed him and keep him company while his husband is driving back, so of course I did so. We spent an hour in the hot tub, then I ordered a delivery dinner, then I read out loud to him until he got sleepy and ordered an Uber to take him back.
I won't see B again until his husband leaves town, not sure when that will be ... will just have to wait and see how the surgery goes and then his recovery.
I've known others who experienced detached retinas. I hope he recovers OK.

I'm getting sleepy now -- I want to run 3 miles first thing in the morning. I'll play a little bit of MtG:A and then prepare for bed.
