hadn't seen this --

I'd seen after 10/7 that few Israelis support a two-state solution, but few Palestinians do either. The world cannot impose a two-state solution that the people living there do not want -- we've been trying that for 80 years. The people living there, each side, wants their own state to win. So they keep fighting.

And that's why people fight wars in this Age of Nationalism. Each side wants their own nationalism to win. Ditto for Russia vs. Ukraine -- they've been fighting on and off for a long time.

I hate nationalism, but I can't stop other people from identifying with it. Or fighting over it. All I can do is not identify with it or fight over it myself.

I cast out nationalism. But it continues to thrive around me. It was an amazing invention, as the Industrial Revolution blew up the monarchies, ambitious people realized they could create in place of a God-blessed monarch, a Leader of the Nation. Simply get the People to identify with the Nation, and convince the People that you, as their Leader, embody the Nation/People combo.

This enabled mass conscription and the worst wars the world had ever seen, until nukes paradoxically calmed things down, partly, but only partly, for those living under a nuclear umbrealla, and always with the risk that we'll use them on each other anyway ...

i cast you out, nukes are good, nationalism
