"I want somebody as obsessed about me as I'm obsessed about them"

Yesterday I saw this same statement on two different social media services, written by two very different people of different races and genders.

The first time I saw it I thought, "That's a weird way to go about finding a relationship." The second time I saw it I thought, "Where is everybody coming up with this as their standard?"

Obsession is not a good thing LOL. In psychology, obsessive love is viewed as a disorder.

From time to time I get a crush on somebody, and it would be fun if they got a crush on me also, but then we have to figure out whether we're compatible over the long-term when the crush wears out. If we're both obsessed with each other, does that mean we don't have time for jobs or friends or family or sleep?

To me this phrase sounds like a mentally ill person who wants an unhealthy relationship with another mentally ill person.

A person responded to that statement on the social media service, "There are people who are obsessed with you and you won't even give them the time of day." Hah! There are plenty of visually attractive people on social media who complain about being single and then ignore all the messages from their online fans who say they would be happy to date them. It turns out the hot people online have just as much difficulty living their lives as everybody else. But all you see are their carefully curated photos so you can fantasize about how they're also kind and loving and humorous and mentally stable LOL.

crush bug, and people are stupid
