but ... still ... why Trump?
I'm reading a profile of a conservative pro-Trump pundit who sees the Deep State conspiring to keep Trump out of power.
OK, let's assume for a second you're right, there's a Deep State conspiracy to keep Trump out of power.
Why do you even care? What redeeming qualities does Trump have that make you want to return him to power? This is the piece of the puzzle I've never understood. It's not like Trump is your only choice if you hate liberals and hate the Deep State and hate the mainstream media and so forth. It's not like Trump achieved any particularly useful goals while President, other than cutting taxes and appointing conservatative judges, which literally any other Republican President would also do.
His southern border wall wasn't anywhere near finished, his tarriffs didn't reduce the trade deficit, he couldn't reform health care, he couldn't get an infrastructure bill passed, he couldn't extricate himself from Afghanistan, he was clueless about COVID, and then he was so unpopular he lost the White House and Congress. He was bad at doing his job! And he lies endlessly.
If you don't like liberals, fine. But that's no excuse for liking Trump. I'll never understand this cult around him. I can only hope that when he wins again in 2024 that he doesn't fuck up my retirement somehow before I can call it quits. I'll have to get through 2 years and 8 months of his second term, and then I'm done serving our country. Y'all won't deserve my service if y'all put Trump back in office. I'll figure out something else to do with the time I have left. Volunteering at an animal shelter and/or an abortion clinic (if those still exist by then) will suit me fine, because humanity sure doesn't need my help to fuck up the planet. Sigh.
