reading more hungrily
As I steer myself away from reading news & current events to short stories and novels, I find that I'm feeling pretty hungry for particular types of writing: lusty and emotional, sexy and violent.
I still have a collection of short stories I bought 14 years ago, I started reading some of them while in a waiting room this afternoon, and one of them this evening was so good I didn't want to stop reading until the end -- just a short story, but it had the pull. Two guys falling in love in some sort of post-apocalyptic and dangerous "fallen city".
I feel like I want to read things that keep me up late, that make me feel impatient to turn the page. Not all fiction is like this, definitely not. And I'm not always in the mood for this type of reading experience, but that's what I'm in the mood for now. So I'm scanning the stuff I've already bought for this kind of fiction, and trying to figure out how to find more.
I'm not sure I have a greater goal here.
