I am envious at times about what life must be like for young kinky gay guys in 2015. HIV not a problem. Marriage not a problem. General attitudes of most people not a problem.
Still discrimination, and even more horrible things. But less than I grew up with.
However, young kinky gay guys growing up in 2015 have to deal with problems I did not face. Tuition is far higher. The economy sucks. Republicans are going off the freakin' cliff and the Democrats are, like, 70 years old and completely out of touch with young folks.
I think the world as a whole probably looks more bleak now than it did in 1985, even though nearly every gay man I met when I was coming out died from AIDS. We had a plague, but y'all seem to have less economic security. And maybe economic security was always more important than all this identity politics was.
