Thoughts on T-ara's Disbandment

May 03, 2017 22:47

T-ara, my ultimate KPop group, released news of their disbandment in late March. I have to say, I am pretty taken aback and sad about the news. They would be releasing their last album this month with Soyeon and Boram ending their contracts on 30May, while the remaining members (Qri, Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon) extending their contracts to December. I think everyone in the KPop fandom knows how much their company is to be blamed for their 'imminent' downfall for the past 5years since their scandal. I had expected MBKentertainment to be a lot more thick skinned in extending their contracts and milking them. But with the success of DIA (thanks to Chaeyeon), I think their CEO is finally letting T-ara go since he is expecting DIA to be his next cashcow. T-ara has released a number of bops, even if they did not manage to win at music shows. To know that the KPop group that brought me into KPop is disbanding, I cannot help but feel dejected. I am most likely to lose interest in keeping up with Korean entertainment news after T-ara officially disbands. For the 5 years of injustice they faced, I feel injustice for them and their management company has to take the main share of the pie for this. Had their management manage them a little better, a little fairer, T-ara probably would remain one of the more prominent female groups in the KPop industry considering the songs that they have released. For now, I can only hope that they will release good songs for their last comeback and win at least once in a music show. It will definitely prove difficult and challenging but they have came in second quite a few times in the past 5 years so it is not entirely impossible.
