Yet in retrospect, Nagato finds himself questioning this stage of the plan. His aim was to improve upon Deidara's handiwork: send the enemy fleeing into terror and confusion.
If their pawn was successful in his attempt to assassinate the Hokage, then this will work perfectly, but Nagato has not felt any trust in Madara's puppet -- in his loyalties or his abilities.
And thus they may well be walking into a trap. ]
Sasori, we will need to be on guard here.
I have my misgivings. If anyone of any power should try to engage us -- if the Hokage has survived, and if he attempts it -- I will return us to Madara.
Remember, we are here to disrupt the village and find scrolls.
We are not here to conclude the final strike of the war.
As a puppet-master, you will understand that finesse is important, and timing is everything.

I agree that we should be cautious. However, I'm confident that we'll prevail.
[He smirks.]
Timing is indeed, everything. And I believe that this is our time to see our goals met, and to see our enemies finally crushed.
We have each brought nations to their knees on our own. I'm certain that no one can stand against the both of us combined.
However, if it really proves prudent to retreat...well, we will both do what we must, I imagine.

But now that the pieces seem to be falling into place just as Kakashi said they would, Cloud can only feel a vague sense of frustration at having been caught up in something else he doesn't fully understand, engaged before he understands the enemies or those who fight on the same side.
That.. and a low, simmering anger.
He knows that bloodshed is hardly going to soothe his turbulent feelings, but every fiber in him is singing for battle.
Alert from the first signs of attack, it had taken him mere moments to prepare; thoughtless, controlled movements that had become routine with training and necessity. And now here he stood on open ground, gazing up with easily-read puzzlement at the undulating snarl of the puppet cloud.

I knew it. Konoha and its allies claim to want non-violence, but then they attack us.
[ The man is an unknown quantity. He was not in Sakura's report.
Pain is wary of him, but unconcerned.
This body can easily leave the area if need be, and if the stranger insists upon a conflict -- although he likely will, since all of these people seem to lie when they say they want no part of battles. ]

[He smirks, briefly. He feels touched, and more assured of their success after hearing Leader's words.]

[He turns then to face his approaching opponents, and prepares himself for the coming fight.]
