[Konoha lays before them, and already, the destruction that Deidara has wrought makes for an impressive sight.

Perfect.
Yet in retrospect, Nagato finds himself questioning this stage of the plan. His aim was to improve upon Deidara's handiwork: send the enemy fleeing into terror and confusion.
If their pawn was successful in his attempt to assassinate the Hokage, then this will work perfectly, but Nagato has not felt any trust in Madara's puppet -- in his loyalties or his abilities.
And thus they may well be walking into a trap. ]
Sasori, we will need to be on guard here.
I have my misgivings. If anyone of any power should try to engage us -- if the Hokage has survived, and if he attempts it -- I will return us to Madara.
Remember, we are here to disrupt the village and find scrolls.
We are not here to conclude the final strike of the war.
As a puppet-master, you will understand that finesse is important, and timing is everything.

I agree that we should be cautious. However, I'm confident that we'll prevail.
[He smirks.]
Timing is indeed, everything. And I believe that this is our time to see our goals met, and to see our enemies finally crushed.
We have each brought nations to their knees on our own. I'm certain that no one can stand against the both of us combined.
However, if it really proves prudent to retreat...well, we will both do what we must, I imagine.

I suppose I should have taken all the paths, but it's too late for that now.
One way or another, we will win, now or later. They cannot hope to defeat our united strength.

But now that the pieces seem to be falling into place just as Kakashi said they would, Cloud can only feel a vague sense of frustration at having been caught up in something else he doesn't fully understand, engaged before he understands the enemies or those who fight on the same side.
That.. and a low, simmering anger.
He knows that bloodshed is hardly going to soothe his turbulent feelings, but every fiber in him is singing for battle.
Alert from the first signs of attack, it had taken him mere moments to prepare; thoughtless, controlled movements that had become routine with training and necessity. And now here he stood on open ground, gazing up with easily-read puzzlement at the undulating snarl of the puppet cloud.
Don't get distracted. There's nowhere to put his back, nowhere that he can truly assume that attack won't come from every direction. He shrugs his shoulders, unconsciously testing the weight of his sword before drawing it over his shoulder; a one-handed movement that puts the lie to his ( ... )

However, it is not chakra that matters; it is what you do with it. ]
I remember you. You said that you wanted no part of a war, yet here you are.
I knew it. Konoha and its allies claim to want non-violence, but then they attack us.
[ The man is an unknown quantity. He was not in Sakura's report.
Pain is wary of him, but unconcerned.
This body can easily leave the area if need be, and if the stranger insists upon a conflict -- although he likely will, since all of these people seem to lie when they say they want no part of battles. ]

He adjusts his grip on his sword, eyes blazing. ]
You gave me no choice. Even those of us who want to live in peace will fight to defend themselves.

Yes, I agree it's prudent for you to regroup.
[He looks further out, and catches sight of a shock of pink hair approaching. It looks like she's decided to make her appearance earlier than expected.]
Besides, this one is not alone.
[He smirks, briefly. He feels touched, and more assured of their success after hearing Leader's words.]
We will both do what we must, as I said.
I'll take care of the brat and her ally, and rendezvous back with you when I'm finished.
I'm certain we will achieve victory, and our goals.
[He turns then to face his approaching opponents, and prepares himself for the coming fight.]

We will be waiting.
[ The body disappears as it is summoned away.
Pain is certain Cloud can find him in order to continue this fight if he so desires, though --
-- those allies of Konoha always do pursue bloodshed, regardless of what they say. ]

But when nothing happens, the words flicker back through his consciousness and the point of his sword droops towards the ground, loosening in his grip. ]
Six of me...?
[ Frowning in puzzlement, he re-houses his weapon over one shoulder, making sure that it's loose enough to pull free, should something else happen. ]
