[ooc: sorry for the massive tl;dr ;;]
It'd been at least a day since he'd headed out to do some traveling and explore this place; it was much larger than he'd thought.
With his job being what it was, he had the time to spare when it came to this kind of thing. That and someone had told him that one could find some things in other villages that he couldn't find in Mizusato, so he'd decided that it wouldn't be such a bad idea. This whole place was pretty neat in itself and the longer he spent it here, the more he found he didn't mind it as much as he did when he initially got here as it was a lot like olden-days Japan, like what he'd read in books growing up as a kid. You didn't get to experience this everyday so he'd taken this as kind of a blessing in itself.
No use in being upset about it.
Hefting the sword in it's case, he sped up his steps as he knew the other village wasn't far from here and his feet were getting tired by this point in time. If only because it was so quiet, it made it easier to spot - and hear - the sound of what happened to be a little girl's voice and the very distinct sound of mewling that likely came from a cat. Something which proved to be true as he bolted forwards and found a small almost-clearing next to the river, where a little girl in a light, baby-blue kimono was calling to a kitten that happened to be a bit of a ways up in a tree. Rin took one look at the kitten, then down to the girl before he put the pieces together and sped forwards to where the girl was, mindful of keeping his tail hidden as he knelt down just a bit behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder lightly.
"Hey. It might take a bit, but I think I could get your cat for you."
"Really~? Y-You can?" She looked a bit timid and scared that he'd showed up, and yet hopeful, to which Rin offered a bright grin as he nodded, moving to stand and walk over to the tree, setting his sword down next to it and staring up at the massive tree before shaking his head and starting the arduous task of climbing it, the kitten being just about halfway up the tree and clinging for dear life. It didn't take as long as he'd thought to climb that tree and reach where the little guy was still staying, afraid to move, his own feet moving carefully onto what looked like a sturdy branch and while inching carefully over, he reached his arms up to try and reach the kitten the best he was able. "C'mon! Not gonna hurt ya. Come here.. " Not the best at coaxing, but he did try, trying this for another moment before the kitten slowly moved over enough that he could barely reach it.
About then was when Rin Okumura got the best idea in his head - which by far was probably the worst - and jumped up a bit to grab the cat, his hands latching around the creature carefully. Though as he landed, he was about to tell the girl he got the cat when a sickening snap was heard, signaling the branch breaking beneath his weight and causing him to lose the footing he'd previously had. Swearing under his breath, he knew a fall from this height would kill the kitten and break several bones for him provided he actually landed correctly. Demonic abilities only went so far after all. To save himself though would mean letting go of the cat and that was detrimental to what he'd done up until now as it'd die. So that lead to the next smartest idea, which was extending out his tail and attempting to latch it onto a branch... which worked... barely.
It hurt quite a bit to do it but he was managing.
The poor girl below was thankfully too little to understand that tails = bad demon or whatever so she hadn't run off yet, big brown eyes looking worriedly up at him and extending her hands out as if she could catch the kitty. Hah, not likely. Rin wasn't going to drop the cat from this height as that was suicide.
"Hey mister! I'mma go get my daddy! He can help!"
With that, she ran off, leaving him there, hanging from a tree branch that he swore he heard starting to crack a little under supporting his weight while he was holding a frightened cat; that same being which was starting to lodge it's claws into him out of fear. Pain was also heavily prevalent as well as his tail was not used to this type of exertion and it was quite sensitive as well so all of this was not boding very well at all.
"Shit..."
