It had all been too much for him. All around him there had been dreams and revelations about the Dark World and it had all been too much. Beside Juudai, he’d been the only one there throughout the whole thing and he was not ready to completely deal with it yet, not in the way the dreams forced them too.

It had been a long time since he’d felt the need to run and hide, but there were some things he was just not ready to face yet, some demons that would be laid to rest eventually. But not now; not for a long time to come.  He’d already watched his Aniki fall and struggle through it once, he didn’t need to watch it again. He didn’t’ need to be there for Juudai this time either, he had to face this himself and the others deserved the truth. He’d already told those that would listen all he knew during the week Juudai had been missing, and gleaned the rest from what Juudai said during their last few weeks at Duel Academy. He felt that his presence would only hinder Juudai this time and make it harder for him to retell and relive what he had done somehow.

It was all this that made him leave the Village the morning of Jim’s dream. He couldn’t bring himself to reply to it, he could only watch once more as the world of those he loved crashed around them. At least it wasn’t going to be fatal this time. The note he scrawled and left was brief as he didn’t know himself where he would end up. He had heard stories of Kannagara’s native inhabitants; how it was better to stay away from the Yomites and that the Celestials liked to keep to themselves. He’d figured that his best bet was to seek out the Nomads and if he couldn’t find them then he’d just wander around gaining a better idea of the World they found themselves in.  He’d done something similar in the Dark World, and this had the bonus of not having to follow his friend around as he slaughtered and destroyed uncountable lives.

In the end the Nomads weren’t that hard to find. A tribe had set up camp just beyond the hot springs and were willing to accept him as a temporary member of their group. They found ways for him to be useful, assisting those who needed it while the travelled further and further from Mitusato. The cloaks they were wearing were very similar to the one he had found in the Dark World and the one they presented him with was nearly identical. It appeared that there was truly nowhere to escape the nightmares in this place.

He didn’t know what made him decide to go back, what in particular it was that made him decide that today was the day. It might have been that he found himself back in familiar territory, or that the Nomads, while very hospitable, couldn’t keep him forever. He knew he would not be able to run forever and while he’d needed he break, it was time to go back.

It was sunset when he finally made it back into town. The sun was falling behind him as he walked through the gates. He wasn’t sure where his friends were and if he had thought about it he could have put the Hitomi to good use but after however long he hadn’t used it with the Nomads it just didn’t occur to him. A gust of wind picked up and his cloak billowed out behind him; combined with the suns falling rays he looked the part of a triumphant hero returning; despite how little he felt the part.
